In response to some of the recent "lists" for best of or worst of; What are the best sounding floor speakers you've heard? Must meet the following criteria:
1.) Must actually sit on the floor.
2.) Must actually produce sound. No Braille emitting transducers
3.) Must use tranducers of some type. No harvesting of cosmic rays.
4.) Must be less than a million a pair.
5.) Cannot harm the environment.
6.) Cannot have live musicians living in a small environment.
7.) Must be manufactured on the planet Earth.
8.) Cannot be made by Oompa Loompas.

Well, when I was younger I had been called an ooompa looompa at times.
I guess that removes my trunc towers from this list.
I am going to have to vote for anything that originated in a white van.

I keep hearing people talking about how much they love their "Towers" so obviously whatever that is is the best. In other words, "Towers" are the best speakers, I have heard.
My vote: "Towers"
Sorry, this is one of my pet peeves. Floorstanding SPEAKERS. Tower SPEAKERS. I can't tell you how many people think their computer is called a "tower" too. No, that's the computer you moron, you look at a screen or monitor or display.

Some people can have a tower case for a computer. They are called full tower cases.
As far as tower/floor standing speakers go, yes, a good one should be the best. They generally have or at least should have lower bass, a good one should be full range. Have enough bass to not need a sub for music.
As to what the best is. Who knows. I hate the term the best. The best that you know of, the best by opinion, the best you've heard of?
I'd need to find a way to demo them, but in all seriousness, if I wanted to build floor standing speakers, these might be the best (for my budget) that I could possibly realistically obtain. http://www.madisoundspeakerstore.com/3-way-speaker-kits/zaph|audio-sb12.3-sb-acoustics-12-dual-midrange-3-way/

I know everyone is down on Bose, but has anyone heard their high end stereo speakers (the 901)? I haven't but it looks interesting.

The 901 is the only speaker from Bose that is worth getting (for the right reason). They actually work really good in small PA situations. They are very non directional and can fill a room surprisingly well. Most people think they sound great too. In a large room, not critiquing them to death, just enjoying them, they do actually sound good.
I'd never get them for home use, but if you like them, then go for it. I've done my fair share of Bose bashing, but I do have to give them credit for the 901s. Still pricey, but they are just unique enough to get away with it.

Hmm. A MiniDSP with high and low end boost, 32 "full range" 4" buy-out drivers or so, and I could build a reasonable facsimile of a 901 for use in my patio. Could work! And I'd bet it would sound great.

You can get clones, but I'm not really sure it would be worth it. http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?Partnumber=290-922
I'm pretty sure the design is still a secret.
In the past I've wanted to play with 901s. I don't look full time, and haven't looked lately, but if you check ebay, you might be able to find a set for a reasonable price that needs the surrounds replaced/re-foamed. Just make sure you get the EQ too.
I never wanted to sink a whole lot of money in to it, and they can still cost a lot used, even in not so good of shape, so I never touched them. If I ever run across a deal that I thought I could at least break even on if I wanted to sell them, I'd go for it, just to play with them.

Oh, I'm fully aware of what full tower cases are, having built many computers for myself and others over the years. And of course you know that most computers are in mid-tower or mini-tower configurations and not full tower. However naming something based on the configuration of the enclosure is a little bit silly.
"Tower" /= "computer". See my point?
My whole post was tongue in cheek, obviously.

I love the speakers from MY audio.
Ask anyone on this forum what some of their favorite speaker are. You'll almost always here "My speakers".
