So I came across a JL 12w6 for $100, which I think is a steal. I was thinking it would might make a good HT sub to go with the aviatrix's I plan on building. Any thoughts on the matter?

It's I'm using in my stereo system.
For that price it's a great deal. Hard to beat for the v2 version.

I think it'll do nicely. You'll probably want to vent it for HT (whereas you'd probably seal it in car use).

That sub is great for HT use. Ported for sure wether its HT or the car.

Have you thought about an Infinity 1260W? $56 at Amazon and looks really good in a 36L box.

I've played with the 8" version of the Infinity and the JL is a better sub. The Alpine type-Rs are really good too, but don't have the lowest extension.

Ive owed plenty of subs over the years and i cant say ive ever heard a better sub than a W6 for accuracy and high output, in a car that is. I was mainly curious if its gonna sound as good as in a car, in my house.

It turns out the person selling them has 3 and doesn't want to break up the set, so now i have to choose none or 3 for that great price(3 for $300). It sure is easy to get greedy with bass.

I do like the infinity that fastbike proposed, especially for the money but the w6 is definitely a better sub. Don't bite on 3/300. Search craigslist and pawn shops and you should be able to find a single for 100 or less

Go for three. the advantages of multiple subs in small rooms extends beyond mere output.
