I just ran across this and noticed it was $29. It's usually $35.80, which isn't bad for this solid performer. It's my favorite desktop sub amp for my 2.1 builds. For $29, it's irresistible.... Have to stock up on a few to pair up with my Lepai TA2020's and MCM Stellar Labs T-amps. Couldn't happen at a better time. :D

Great Bryan, now after I ordered the Pioneer speakers from NewEgg for my buddy, I'll have to decide whether to build or buy a sub for him! Half my brain says just buy the 10" Dayton assembled sub and be done with it. He lives in an apartment and ain't gonna be shakin' walls (but once!)

Bud...I'd just get him the Dayton. 10" woofer + 100 watt amp for $109 ?? Done.

You won't be able to beat that by using the SA25 with anything.

I strictly use the SA25 for low level listening situations. Period. It's a nice "desktop" sub plate amp....does that make sense?

You can build a nice low powered 8" sub with the Dayton DVC (SD) in a vented 1.5 cf box for $50-$60 using that amp. It's really nice with a small pair of speakers driven with TA2020.

I am going to have to be more careful about reading your posts....now you have me thinking of buying an EMO amp and a couple plate amps and I haven't even finish a cup of coffee this morning. :)

Yesterday I pulled out the wallet on a couple of MCM amps and 4A power supplies.....

Guess I need to build some more speakers for all the amps. Yeah, Yeah, that's it!

Yeah, dammit, now I have to grab a couple. The 70 watter is on sale for $49, too.

I gotta stop looking at this thread, or start selling something......

The SA25 is OK as a small subwoofer amp. It uses the LM1875 amp, which is a nice IC amp. It is easy to make it a full-range amp for active speakers, but there are some mods I would recommend to make the amp quieter and to reduce distortion for full-range. See this link:
http://home.comcast.net/~neilrdavis/Plate_amp_mods/SA25_Mods.htm

The write-up may sound a bit disparaging, but it is written as though the amp were competing with high-end designs. Once you fix the design "short-cuts' noted in the text, the amp is actually quite nice as a full-range plate amp for an active speaker. The mods would also improve its performance as a sub-amp, but the changes may not be too noticeable for that application.

JR, you think I should just get the built-up 10" 100 watt Dayton Sub-1000 for $109 and quit there with four of the Pioneer two-ways for my bud? He had (sorry, Bose) so some stands are in order. Carl's got a 4.1 Pioneer receiver and I don't think he knows what he's been missing.

I sent my order in today.....was gonna grab 4 SA25's but I opted for 2 SA25's and a SA70 (also on sale).

I would never consider using the SA25 to power a normal room-size sub, especially for any movie duty. Don't make a mistake.
