I borrowed them to an audiophile friend...
This word should be 'lent'. Technically your friend borrowed them.

    Additions...

Nuclear- stated 'New-klee-er', not 'New-kyoo-ler' (Nucular)

Difference between 'Less' and 'Fewer' is another one. More often than not- Less is used when it should be fewer. The latest Colgate commercial for instance- 'Less germs, healthier mouth' shoud be 'Fewer germs, healthier mouth'.

When it comes to a number, 'fewer' should be used.

    More to come...

Caiman- you are likely correct about that one.
I took 4 yeats of German in HS, and Go-Urtz is likely more similar.
What I stated would have been Guertz, not Goertz.
  5. Caiman's Avatar
Goertz should be close to Gurts, although German "oe" (or ö, with Umlaut) is closer to French "eu", longer, and the following "r" opens towards a schwa ("ə") sound rather than a roll or a trill. Something like Gu-ats, or maybe like "goats" with the -oa- phonemes inverted.

Nope- it's 'teel', or even 't-heel' if you make the H present. Just don't blur the 'T' and 'H' sounds to 'TH', keep them separate.

This goes for Thiel Audio, Thiele/Small, and Thiele and Partner.

What about Thiele? I've always wondered if I pronounce it correctly. I say, "thee uhl".

    Wolf,
Red this because you told me too, then slapped myself in the face for not reading it before i started my build. I applaud you, very nice.

    Dan- Thanks!

Johnny- that is how it went, you are correct.

Dave- That is what the first test was. Caps in the mid and tweeter were the same in both A and B, but different makes to either choice.

The test that I would like to see, Wolf, is where BOTH caps in the tweeter high pass are changed simultaneiously. What is occuring in this test is the"better cap" (whatever that is???) is faithfully passing the characteristics of the other cap. In other words, if one cap is a bit edgy and one very transparent the pair will still sound edgy albeit with a slightly different character - a cleaner picture of edgy. Obviously there were a small panel sample that can hear these differences. Critical listening is a learned response. If you took the others and trained them as to what to listen for, your results would have been greatly different with the majority in the "hear a difference" category.

Your test pretty much answers if a shunt caps is "in circuit", huh? As Andy G would say: "Good on you, mate!"

    Great job.

I recall telling you I was pretty sure the last test went A-B-B. I do not know if I could do it again, but it helped to play the same selection for all three.

Wolf this is very good stuff for newbies like me. All blogs were excellent informative.

I put it where I was physically able in the circuit, and could not put it there in the model, so I took a guess that way.

I guess the resistor is in the wrong-place folks! Sorry for the error! It is in the schematic as I used it however.

    Good catch!

The tweeter's series resistor in the schematic is in a different location than in the pcd model. I'm sure you are aware of this and that it matters. There will be more than 1 dB difference in the tweeter response due to this discrepancy. Which is probably why you settled on a value different from the sim. It looks like pcd will not allow an exact sim of the schematic as posted unless you used multiple sessions such as a cascaded setup.
