Working with resin enclosures

Seen talk about possibly using resin as enclosures but nothing really "Done", We'll here's one that's getting done!

  1. Update on sidetrack cnc project

So I've got my Diy cnc pretty much running and made my first tweeter cutout yesterday, it was just out of pink foam installation and all was going perfectly until my Z axis hit a "stop" that it wasn't meant to. I had screwed my dremel to my z axis, till I get a better spindle setup, and the screws were too long would get stuck on a non-moving part, well luckily my power supply is only about 2/3 the power it should be so my stepper would just loose steps instead of just self-destructing(there ...

  2. Related Sidetrack Project

OK, so my larger project is sounding good, I need to get measurements up, but, in-depth details and pictures will have to wait(as this is a planed commercial product) anyway After all the hard work of making the proto enclosure and making a mold of it, I found it is not square, looking at it you can't tell and it doesn't effect the sound, it good enough to design the crossovers and such but it won't do for "Real" product, so because of this and designs of the same process, will also need ...

Here I installed a couple drivers in my first test enclosure

    1st was the Aura NS3:

    NS3 No BSC
I've had the ns3 for a few years, first I had it running full-range and thought they sounded harsh on the top-end as you can see why. Even with bsc that peak still would have bothered me so...

Here's my first "real" trial of using a urethane resin for a small 3" full-range speaker, as you can see the result are pretty good, though it takes a lot of thought and preparation in the actual mold making step with careful planing unique and quickly repeatable shapes can be created.
This is (by accident) about 1/3 as tall as it was meant to be, the sidewalls are 1" thick.

I've seen people post about using material other than wood and though there are some diy designs from concrete/marble/Corian... This will be my journey though finding a material which is easy to use and has satisfactory properties for loudspeaker enclosures.
