Working with resin enclosures

Seen talk about possibly using resin as enclosures but nothing really "Done", We'll here's one that's getting done!

  1. New Project-Xtended

by , 02-17-2011 at 12:15 AM (Working with resin enclosures)
So I started the next speaker in my line(making my way up to my mastering monitor project). Staying with the consumer line, it will be a variation on the Project-X, this will add a dedicated woofer, still use the Aura ns3 along with a tweeter, so it's a 3-way... a small floorstander ~33"-34" tall, will use a 1st order crossover and be time aligned.

here's the lower woofer enclosure I started tonight this section is 19.5" tall, and one of the pods will be mounted vertically ...

  2. Project-x cont..

by , 02-07-2011 at 12:18 AM (Working with resin enclosures)
Couple more pics, didn't show the actual mold making process as there's plenty on the net, wish I had pics of the actually prototype making process that the mold was formed from though, but I hope to improve that process with the CNC. In these pics the white enclosure is actually an experimental substance I'm going to be testing to see if I can improve performance and lower cost, though It takes 3-4 months for it to totally cure, were the resin takes minutes, but I've got a couple other products/combinations ...

by , 02-07-2011 at 12:07 AM (Working with resin enclosures)
OK, so my small mistake project will actually turn out to be a pretty cool product.

pic1 = mold doing what it does... molding
    pic 2 = mold apart
pic 3 = plug for cavity of enclosure
pic 4 = now you see where that cavity plug went
pic 5= enclosure out of mold

I'll post a couple more pic but the limit is 5 for this post

  4. Back from CES

by , 01-20-2011 at 05:24 PM (Working with resin enclosures)
It was fun, a lot of walking and started getting a blister on my foot, I spent the first two days in the convention center than the next two at the Venetian, I didn't get to 'T.H.E show' at all.
There were a few speakers that I really wanted to see/hear but didn't get to them... will have to do better planing next time.
The one thing I'm really pumped about it that it confirms my belief that my speakers will be able to compete at the price points I'm thinking about!

  5. On with the speaker making

by , 12-29-2010 at 12:41 PM (Working with resin enclosures)
So I've decided to make my mistake (http://techtalk.parts-express.com/blog.php?b=120) into a real product, a 5.0 system not a 5.1 as I won't be making a sub and letting people chose their own. Will also incorporate it into a two enclosure system with the the woofer in a separate enclosure (MDF) under the "resin pod" Still deciding on the woofer section, looking at a 5.5-6" driver.

    P.S. Can't wait for C.E.S.
