  • Upgrade-itis - UPDATE Subs are done!

Wouldn't you know it. A pair of UM10's with 1900 watts and a ton of DSP can't handle output below 30 Hz

It was never a concern when I lived in an apartment but I knew it would be an issue once I was able to actually turn my system up and not piss off the neighbors.

So...that leads us to the new subs

These are the first cabinets for myself that I didn't feel like building so I recruited Scott Campbell, a local CNC dude. I drew up the plans, sent him the CAD files and a few weeks (and a lot of $$) later - here we be. Overall dimensions are 27"H x 28"D x 22"W. 1" MDF shell, 2" baffle, 3/4" bracing all dado'd. They haven't been weighed but I am sure they are close to or over 100 lbs unloaded. They used close to 6 full sheets of MDF to build. I think you can understand my lack of desire to cut and assemble these myself.

They will house UM18's, sealed, roughly 7.25 cubic feet for a Q of about .65 (IIRC). Powered with a Behringer EP4000 and DSP via an FBQ1000. This is the setup I've had for a while now and works very well.

Will update with finished pics, this is where they stand now until I close on my house. No point in moving them more than I have to...

All in the name of clean dynamic output. That's all I'm really shooting for here

Although pant leg moving infrasonics are also fun.

Ooooooo you are giving me the urge to rebuild my 18's.

Beautiful cabs. Can't wait to hear how they perform for you.

Nope, no worries about pissing off the immediate neighbors, now it'll be the ENTIRE neighborhood. Should be epic!

I really should, they are incredibly undersized....Elemental Designs 19Ov.2's sealed in I believe 2.25..... The problem being that the actual circuit of the house can't handle the draw...I've tripped the breaker a couple times. so if I went twice as big they'd really put a hurting on the room.....

                        along with 13Av.2's.....

I'd have a hard time letting go of those cabinets I built though...... I put some time into those things.

                        Now load those cabs!!

Throw those ED 19's in about 5 cubes sealed. More efficiency on the bottom end. Plus I assume you're using your 13's for mid-upper sub bass? Are you using any DSP or just letting the room do it's thing? If you arent using DSP I would HIGHLY recommend you throw a MiniDSP on those. You probably won't have to rebuild anything.

They will be loaded soon enough!! I just got done putting in the Speakons and getting the cabs stuffed. I just need to get them in the house before I throw the woofers in. That hole is a nice hand hold and there's no point in adding 35 pounds to something before I inevitably have to move it lol.

Stephen...there is no such thing when it comes to subs...

You can always turn it down - and then let the 12 year old in you show himself when the wife is gone
