  • Another Tritrix/first build thread

this thread is actually to serve 2 purposes -
1 - to post a couple of pics of my tritrix build
2 - to voice my endorsement of the Jasper jig

although I'm definately a novice when it comes to building speakers - I'd classify myself as having intermediate level woodworking skills. The Jasper jig bolted right on to my 1970's B&D router and instantly made perfect, on size circles (in solid oak - I did not want to scrap any pieces)

Maybe I shouldn't be surprised - but when it comes to woodworking, hardly anything is as easy as it looks, and there is almost always a little trial and error involved.

.....I'm going to be making a tritrix MTM center, MT rears and a Dayton RSS265HF-4 subwoofer as well

Looks like a great start! I can't imagine trying to make a set of speakers without my jasper jig, it has been a very worth while investment for me!

Intermediate woodworking skills? Those look pretty nice to me!

I love my Jasper Jig also, it's a great tool. I have the smaller one, made my own version of the bigger one before I knew of a Jasper jig.

Keep us posted with pics please!

The guy who lives beside me has worked the past 26 years at company that does custom woodwork - real fancy stuff like church pulpits.

whenever I start to think I know what I'm doing, I just take a look at whatever he happens to be working on in his garage....it keeps me humble.

Nice. I have used that Sedona Red stain, very nice on oak.

Finished off the poly, nice'n shiny - ready to install the drivers.
You can see one of the crappy big box speakers these'll be replacing in the background....

One step closer, just need to make up the cross overs - which I'll probably do tomorrow....either that or back in the garage making boxes for a center and rears, depends how nice the weather is....

                      Re: Another Tritrix/first build thread

...too nice today to stay inside and make crossovers - so I went out to the garage and made these instead....

Once again the jasper jig proved its worth. I did however have the bushing fall off my flush cut bit and make a nice gouge in the bottom of one of the rears....it's not in a noticeable spot, and should be fixable - but it will torment me for as long as I own these.

Crossovers will have to wait until next weekend......try to ignore the disaster area in the picture, clean up will have to wait until next weekend too.

                          Thanks Mate...

..as is normally the case - the 3 surround speakers turned out quite a bit better than the two towers I did first - but overall I'm pretty happy with all of them
I think I'll be making some stands to boost the towers up another 3-4 inches & also a subwoofer box

...I have another 4 weekends to use my garage for this purpose - then my wifes Tiburon goes in for the winter & I'm out of luck:rolleyes:

Those look very nice -- I notice you use the words "first build thread," as opposed to first speaker build. I assume you've done this before...

I am a little puzzled however -- the height of the speakers look as though you chose to build the transmission line variant, but I see a port a ways down on the baffle. Did you resize the enclosure internally to make the volume correct for a ported variant? I think you're going to love the Tritrix -- they're a great value.

I'm looking forward to some close up shots of your crossover board. :-)

I do a bit of wood working now and then - although this is the most I've ever used my router....it's nice to improve my skills a bit

Yes they are a 22 liter vented enclosure - the top 2/3 of the box is sealed off from the rest...the 14"+ depth of the T/L box didn't fit in well with the current arrangement of the room - and my wife wasn't having any of that. These are about 11" deep

...you may notice that the speakers are stained to match the fireplace in the pictures above - aesthetics was a big factor in my wife being on board with the cash outlay for these...gotta keep the boss happy
