  • MTM Soundbar

I recently got married and moved in our own place. And our living room is not ideal for any speakers whatsoever. I honestly have been using a pair of polk b2 bookselves on the floor for the past several months. So this led me to the soundbar. Im not looking for high sq, but something that will knock the socks off what the big box stores have to offer and a price point that wont break the bank.

I came across a thread sometime back where someone modeled the tc9 and nd16 as a compact MTM and thought, bingo! That will do just fine. Pretty small, but still able to pack a punch...well, for 3.5" drivers anyway. And I included an internal sure 50wpc amp to power everything. For what they are, i believe they have some value.

I am currently using tapatalk on my phone and will soon post dimensions, listening impressions, xover etc.

Thanks to joeybutts for creating the flat pack for me! And thanks to Jay1 for the sim!

Ps. I thought I took more pics than this...

        Re: MTM Soundbar

I have only completed a few projects so forgive my poor listening impression description. I will say, distortion is very low. That could be from the sure 50w stereo amp or the mtm design. I was used to the lepai that everyone loves so much. Originally it seemed to be on the thin side. Severely lacking any mid bass or sub 150-200hz. Luckily my tv has a built in eq that allowed for me to boost my 100hz range.

I believe that this build could benefit to a much deeper enclosure to create a "TV pedestal" design that many companies are selling. This would aid in the mid bass portion dramatically, as well as not block the view of the tv. Mine is blocking about 2-2.5" or so that I'll have to remedy somehow.

Overall, pretty impressed! There's a lot of self accomplishment that goes with completing something from scratch. Also, for what I have in this, There ain't any mass produced soundbar that could touch this in sq or output!
