  • Crackling tweeter

Been a while. Well, I finally finished my Swope Towers and they sound amazing... Until last night. While watching The Force Awakens one of my tweeters starting crackling and moving a lot. It doesn't looked blown, but what else could it be?

Well, maybe the voice coil is bottoming out? Or maybe the voice coil is coming loose, is detached from the dome.

That's pretty much it. But I forgot to mention that it is only during certain frequencies.

        Repair or replace.

Could also be due to a crossover issue. Check to see that the crossover is operating properly. Do a frequency sweep and take a measurement if you have the tools. Otherwise, visual inspection of the crossover may be the only option. If a capacitor has failed it could be a culprit.

Swap the tweeter with the other channel tweeter. That should help determine if it is the tweet or xover.

I'd hook up an audio signal generator and determine which certain frequencies.
