FYI , a 5lb. coffee can is the perfect size for a RS180 through cut .

we're moving along nicely . need to make a couple stops on the way home tonight for more 1/4" weather stripping and mattress topper . i should have all the holes pre-drilled and have it together tonight .

rbp , you still with me ? once together should i measure and voice in position or out in the middle of the room as would normally do ?

I'd measure out into the room and away from walls and floor. I'd make the speakers measured response louder in the midrange and treble like the sim I posted. Then I'd put it in place at the tv and see how it sounds.

i spent 4 hours after work getting it together , i was so tired i didn't even hook it up for a listen . there will be a small round over , but i couldn't find my counter sinlk bit last night and i'm not sure how big i'll be able to make it , there is not much materiel when using 1/2" stuff .

some maybe wondering why i would build such as this , there are a couple reasons . first i have been thinking of this to complete the paper system for a while and i had everything on hand . i'm using this as a proof of concept and will buy parts and build a better box if it works out . 2nd i have been battling a circulation issue in my left leg for 5-6 months now . i can only walk for about 6-7 minutes before there is massive pain in my calf and my foot has been 1/2 asleep at best . i see a vascular specialist first of next month . this helps take my mind off all that .

now comes the part i enjoy most of this process , the listening , measuring and tweaking ...

up and running ... first thoughts , the 180P's do not dig deep sealed at all and it is a bit forward in the upper mids . setting up the measuring gear now .

not good ! the tweet is hot and i believe the box is rattling . i've never seen RS drivers with the distortion that high ... on axis from 3ft , 3rd order .

couple questions , what could be causing brief static when the mids take over ? it was what i thought was a rattle when testing to loud . even though the tweet is hot in the pic above , i'm getting a pretty good dip at 3100 , any ideas ?

It's hard to explain, but don't worry about your distortion measurement. It appears to me that you are measuring the noise floor, not the distortion. More about that later maybe.

What would be interesting to see is the individual responses of the mid, and tweeter displayed with the sum of all three (tmw) on one graph. You can only show 3, so skip showing the woofer for now. Use gated measurements. It will look like the bass rolls off below 300hz, but it will look that way due to the gating, so it's not really rolling off as much as it looks. Initially, I would suggest that you should be focusing on the mid and tweeter blending, and the roll offs.

To make it look better, and easier to read, I'd suggest cropping the graph at 70hz and 20k. Also crop the chart a little bit vertically. Make the chart about 65 dB total, and then stretch the dimensions by squishing down the impulse chart. Oh, and turn off the distortion measurement for the time being. Use options tab to position the responses a little if needed. What I'd like to look at is the roll offs as they fade down to the -50dB range.

Better idea... Show the sum of the tweeter and mid rather than woofer, mid, and tweeter.

was afraid thats what was gonna be said . leg is bothering me today so i think i'm just gonna play with the tweet by ear . i'll get all the independent measurements by weeks end . what do you think could be going on at woofer mid hand off ? its a real brief static , i dont hear it playing music , but i do in all my sweeps .
