fancy magnet and squished coil - does it need to be oriented in a certain way?

Why squish the coil to make it only assemble one way? Seems a bit gimmicky in that area, but the magnet structure reminds me of the Raidho custom drivers, the Seas Hexadym, and the inner workings of the Air-Circ motor.

Bingo, on their site. Looks like only the voice coil is elliptical. http://www.scan-speak.dk/?page_id=638

I also thought it reminded me of the Air-circ tweeter maybe it is an Air-circ woofer.
I think Focal has a woofer with similar neo magnet layout.

When I saw these on their site, I thought the same. Why squish the VC? From the brief reading on elliptical magnet structures, it appears it might increase flux density. Though Scanspeak is staying " circular motor structures and their inherent breakup behavior has been broken"

They also state in the docs that it is an Air-Circ magnet system.

The tweeter is 97dB sensitivity above 2.2k, has 10 neo slugs, and a weird-eyeball looking ovular dome.
                92.5dB on the woofer!
                Wow- output!

Fantastic to see Scan-Speak using their resources and expertise to do research on innovative ways to push the performance of drivers. The world doesn't need another standard driver. It needs more innovative drivers like these.

Now, I wonder how much these cost...

I'm betting these will top-out above the Illuminator line.

                      Interesting for sure.

First thought, though, no crazy cone design to break up modes? That seems to be a Scanspeak staple. The cones look more like Discovery lineup that Illuminator or Revelator, in this respect.
When you stop caring about being right, you might actually learn something.

Differing distance from voice coil to cone edge...But seems a bit overly elaborate compared to making the cone eliptical and keeping a round motor and coil. In any case, they are "aircirc" speakers so no doubt will have good performance. I'm interested to see the price tag ;)

And since no one has posted the spec sheets yet...

Don't waste your money on a new set of speakers, You get more mileage from a cheap pair of sneakers. Next phase, new wave, dance craze, anyways it's still rock and roll to me!

There are also a new non Satori Beryllium dome and a bunch of ceramic coned woofers on SB Acoustics homepage.

'ceramic cone' - is this 100% or a la Tangband tweet? Was hoping they'd release an 8" carbon cone this yr.

SS has gone full marketing in their engineering department, eh?
Don't listen to me - I have not sold any $150,000 speakers.
