I really enjoyed dropping in yesterday. I popped in when lunch got started, so I could wander through and get a close look at the speakers, particularly those I have followed the build here. The Strafi, DGBG, Black Widows, and Jedi Mind Trick sub all looked great and it was cool to see them in person after watching the build picks. The Black Widows had some fingerprints on that beautiful finish and I had to resist polishing them All the speakers there were pretty amazing, and that horn was nuts!

One thing I've noticed, builders tend to travel around to multiple shows / competitions with their builds, which was kinda cool since I got to hear a couple of the 3L tiny buggers from the inDIY competition as well.

Unfortunately I didn't get to introduce myself to anyone, except Kevin and Kole who I ran into at Chipotle and took a guess at who they were. Not many dad / teenager combos in MWAF t-shirts After lunch I hit the tent sale, picked up the parts for my microsat build, and popped in the front row for a few of the under $200 selections. I was the tall dude sitting in front of John H, Wolf, and some other folks I'm sure I'd recognize if they had they're TT handle over their heads.

Next year, I'll have something to enter. Subs and a mono instrument amplifier weren't going to cut it.

I'm not sure how you guys judge these things, I found the speakers like beer, one after another and you can tell the differences, but the differences aren't necessarily bad and they all seem pretty good. Also, after too many of them I'm not sure I'd be able to tell what I'm doing any more.

Unfortunately due to judging and working at the same time, I didn't have time to take my own notes on the entries so I don't remember names or designers of projects. I will let them post themselves. I do have pics of every entry (I think). These should be in order for the most part.

Lots of great looking speakers threre! I must say that room looks pretty huge, a lot of home speaker will be pushed to their absolute limits to fill a room of that size.

These Black Widows build by Kevin and Kole were the fan favorites. These had a simply immaculate finish and a very listenable and pleasing overall sound. They could belt it out pretty good too during the end here!

I took plenty of pics along with a few other people. I tried to get a shot of every entry from the judges table but it will take a while to upload them all. I'll probably have to do that tomorrow or Monday.

Quickie update about the whole show: I feel like this went very smoothly and the extended room had pretty much everything to do with that. We also added an "on deck" area for the next contestant to show, so that made things go very quickly. The larger room gave us some issues with finding a good playback level but we got it dialed in pretty well. There will always be a few bugs to work out with a new layout.

I felt honored to be a judge this year. This was really my first show since I'm usually working the tent sale, so this whole experience was pretty new to me and I had an absolute blast. There were SO many great sounding and great looking projects this year, and obviously some very unique designs as well. I've never had the opportunity to sit and listen to so many different designs at once so it was a real eye opener for me personally.

I hope everyone who attended had a good time, felt welcome and liked the new space. I have zero info about the actual tent sale, so someone else will have to provide feedback on that.

I'll post my pics to this thread sometime in the next day or two, unfortunately my busy weekend isn't quite over yet.
Maybe next time enlist the assistance of someone, a volunteer, to be the "Official" photographer for the event, thereby freeing you up to take care of all the other things you needed to do.

I'm the guy with the big cardboard horn.

I'll let others talk about how it sounded, but I'll mention that they couldn't handle the volume level. My theory is that the acoustic suspension protecting the drivers from over-displacement didn't work right, either because the rear chambers were too big or some of them weren't tightly sealed, so some of the drivers were bottoming out, which made for some very funny noises in the loud passages. It's good for the contest to hear now and then what an utter fail sounds like.

Thanks, Matt, for posting all these pictures. And for the view of my, uh, pockets.

One effect of the larger room was that the sound pressure for those of us in the audience was much lower this year than it has been in the past, because we were sitting further away, even if the judges were hearing the same level as they heard in the past.
