I think it was either Primeos or Premios, and it was a 2-way using the carbon fiber TLabs tweeter and the ES180 version1. There is a combo with ES180 version 2 in the works with a much simpler cabinet.

My first "commission" build, meaning he will pay for the materials. I'm hoping to get started on the cabinets this weekend.

"I think the midrange quality on the smaller Esoteric drivers is very good. Maybe 'crisper' than the RS series? I don't hear anything bad coming from them at any volume really. Very clear with no trouble stepping up to louder volumes when needed. IMO, their distortion beyond Xmax even isn't bad at all... I've had them really pumping a few times with no obvious bad sounds.

I agree with Toms assessment of the ES-140. They definitely are worth the investment and performed admirably at this years Iowa DIY. As previously mentioned the design lacked the kind of low end performance that the Esoteric and Transducer Labs drivers deserved in a mate. The Esoteric and TL made for a wonderful combination and are smooth and controlled partners at just about any listening level, although unlike Tom I have not pushed mine past Xmas nor do I intend to do so. Hopefully the second generation ES-140 performs with similar aplomb.

Once I have successfully mated the two with an equally performing driver I will publish.

I bet a 9" Morel would fit in that volume, Marty....

Thanks for the suggestion but the cabinet was built with solid bracing so the enclosure is only about 35 liters which is too small for that Morel. Besides the width at that point is only about 8" total. This is going to require a completely new cab. I have a pair of Usher 8955's to possibly use but that would now be 2 (and possibly 3) NLA drivers in this build and I don't want to do that.

Maybe this as another option: https://www.parts-express.com/tang-b...4-ohm--264-859

              Cheers, Junior!

Those are very handsome cabinets! I like the wider flare at the bottom look a lot.

Dan N's all-carbon design -- the Premios -- is posted on another website. It's a two way with ES180TiA-8 and T Labs N26CFR-A. I will not list the other site in respect to PE's policies, though it obviously sells some of their drivers. It is a good looking design. For Dan, this is a pretty simple cabinet.

Ooops. I forgot his Premios design with the earlier generation driver is posted in the PE project area.

Thanks Tom. In all honesty the project moved along slowly and I felt like I was throwing things together at the last moment. When I loaded them into our hotel listening room the first comment made was 'Whew, that some fresh smelling poly!' I had maybe 36 hours of cure time on the last coat! They photographed better than they look.

To my shame, EVERY time I've gone to the MWAF, I've had polyurethane fumes from recently finished speakers stinking up the car on the 10+ hour trip. The listening room at the MWAF smells like a paint factory sometimes.

How is the 2 7" Esoteric supposed to match the Morel in FR and SPL? and what happens to the CTC between the Upper Mid and the lower dual mids?
