    Has anyone tried connecting a turntable to a Raspberry Pi using something like this

    as an interface to a USB port on the R-Pi? I currently play files on a USB drive through an R-Pi and IQaudio amplifier hat, but am curious about playing records. I also came across this, which seems to indicate vinyl/records to R-Pi is possible:

    Those two units allow you to input a signal to your computer that requires special software to manipulate it into a digital file. So you could not play directly into a Pi from those units, but you could use them to feed your PC or Mac where you can create digital files of your records. So you could feed those files to your PI from your PC or via a streamer. You could purchase a phone preamp and then a digital to analog converter and feed your Pi. or a unite that combines phono preamp and ADC.       Assuming you already have a phono preamp you might be able use something like this: http://www.audioinjector.net/rpi-hat I think you can physically stack it with your iqaudio amp but not sure if you can make the audio output come from the iqaudio.

        Update

        I read more on the Behringer UFO202, which PE sells, and came across a statement that made trying it interesting. I read, that once connected to the R-Pi, paraphrasing, "it just works". It wasn't quite that simple, but nearly so.

        After updating, upgrading, rebooting the Pi, and adding a few lines to the config file, surprisingly, it just worked. I was able to play a record through the Pi/UFO202; however, it occurred to me the UFO might pass the signal on to the amp circumventing the Pi, and consequently shutdown the Pi to check. Without the Pi, the signal died; once the Pi was on again, the music continued. It seems, "to just work".

        Next, I intend to try connecting a turntable and UFO202 to the headless R-Pi/IQaudIO Digiamp+. Interesting if possible to hear records via the Pi.

            The update/upgrade was for Raspbian. I'll try to check to verify the version tomorrow. The UFO202 opens up interesting possibilities for line source/phono input.

              That's great, so you're doing this without an audio specific program such as moode, volumio, raspian etc.? I assume you had to edit config file to enable the hat dac?

              You're right, this opens up a whole world of possiblities thanks for showing the way.

                Here is the link to the Adafruit info I used. It seemed the easiest to understand. I don't know if it was critical, but I had the UFO202 connected to the Pi before sudo aptget/sudo update/reboot. It may have been critical to downloading the correct software updates (USB drivers?) for the UFO.

                I'm using just the R_pi with a touch screen, mouse and keyboard. The audio out went into an amplifier.
                I haven't had an opportunity to try the UFO with the R-Pi/IQaudIO setup yet. I use Moode with it.

                  Not sure how useful this is, but I've used an "XP Sound 201" to convert my LPs and cassettes into WAV files, then burn to CD.

                  I plug the TT or deck into the XP, then plug that into my PC soundcard. It works very well, unlike, say most USB turntables which record your LP as an MP3. The 201 fits into a spare bay in your PC and is powered by the PC, although you can use it externally and use a 9v transistor radio battery.

                  The 201 is no longer commercially available but is often available on certain online auction sites.

                    I'm not certain what I wrote above in post #4 is correct, I need to verify that there is actually output through the Pi, as it is using the RCA output jacks on the UFO may not be affected by the PI, other than that the Pi provides power through the USB cable. Turning off the Pi may only have turned power off to the UFO. I need to take some time a retry this to eliminate what may be incorrect assumptions.
