  • Swapping out bass woofer in 3 way?

I was thinking of swapping out the 10" sb acoustics sb29 in the kairos 3 way with the 9.5/10" satori. Would it work? There is slightly less of a bass hump with the satori after i did the simulations, but i'm not sure if there are other problems. In the crossover, maybe? I don't have the 10" woofers yet on hand; the 3 way kairos is not built yet.

Also, would the 8 ohm or 4 ohm 10" satori be more suitable?

Interesting to me that madisound recommends a similar enclosure size and port, with similar f3 of 30Hz. Am i missing something here? The SB29 looks more robust and suited for heavy bass duties, but i'm hoping the satori will give superior mid-bass performance due to its motor design. Thoughts?

The crossover point is so low that any perceived benefit is.void. I don't see any advantage to using the Satori over the sb29

supposedly the Bass unit from The Kairos is tailored for a nominal 8 ohm speaker.. The 4 ohm Satori driver models better I think for reasons of my use but I am not sure it will play well with the high pass in the sub that was designed for the 8 ohm Kairos

I to have looked at the 9.5 Satori woofer and think its a damn nice unit and have wanted to use it!

Why change it? Jeff did testing on these to match them well.

I can appreciate the motivation, having a preference for Flat Alignments ( and Transient performance ).
            Without seeing the simulation specifics,,,,
The crossover design might contain items such as a Zobel on the woofer.

JB is right at the TOP of respected/knowledgeable designers here. To build one of his designs and try to swap out a single driver seems silly to me. (sc)

I think that's why the OP asked this board the question. That being said the Kairos Woofer system in his own PDF JB states it may work with other drivers and two ways !
