    • I am so looking forward to InDIYana 2019. I'm getting an earlier start this time, hopefully it will result in an earlier finish. Last year, the contest was the first time I heard both of my speakers together

I think there will be some amazing sounding systems with the Bare Minimum crossover challenge. It can be done and done well. Hopefully, there are plenty of people planning and/or building their systems.

        • Wolf,

Is there a limit to how many challenge pairs we can enter? I know the whole "You can't win anything since you are a vendor" spiel, but I've got a couple other designs to go along with my Sedoso that I'd like to possibly get done and enter.

          Thanks in advance.

                  • As much as I’d love to attend your (or any) event, I just don’t think it will ever qualify as a family vacation in our house!

That said, I always enjoy your themes as a set of criteria for a build, so I have a few clarification questions for you even though I won’t be able to attend.

I assume 1.25ft3 gross is internal volume with no actual physical size restrictions on the exterior?

External ports are permissible to save interior volume?

”retail price” would be the same as PE’s “regular price”, not “list price” (ie same as mwaf criteria)?

                    thanks!

                    • Gross volume inside the 6 walls(?) Of the cabinet. Bracing will come out of volume requirement if using max volume. I have no problem with thicker walls, et al, but the outer shell should be the max dims.

Ports should all be internal this time around, as there is no outer max dimensional criteria like in the nanotech theme. These are expected to be a basic cabinet with all contained inside.

Yes, PE's retail is their regular price. Remember that xover parts, waveguides, and PRs are included in costs.

I'm glad you find these themes inspirational, and can have some fun with it!

                      • Thanks for the clarification Ben. I guess a more direct question regarding external size is would a floor standing/tower be permitted or is it stand mount only?

I think having a set of criteria to have to adhere to makes building more challenging and fun.

                          • Post #72 allows a TMM configuration (or TWW), as long as the two woofers do not exceed $125. Can the two woofers be mounted in an isobarik configuation? Or do both woofers need to be mounted on the outside of the box? See attached diagram. Thanks.

I'm glad dynamo brought this up - I'm a bit confused. I went back through and I don't see a restriction on the "max dims" - did I miss something?
My assumption was that by defining gross volume, that was based on the outer dimensions of the enclosure. But seeing now the bracing comes out of the volume, perhaps I misunderstood and the 1.25 was internal volume. But, I'm still confused by the "max dims" comment above. Sorry

If it's gross volume (not net), then that would also include port volume, right? My assumption was that if there's 0.2 ft^3 of port then the rest of the internal volume couldn't exceed 1.05 ft^3 for total of 1.25 ft^3. Correct? If port volume does not need to be included, this would be good to know

One more question: what about making our own driver (yes, seriously)? I know you said that "modification costs" had to be included in the total cost. But DIY waveguides were not. So, this is a bit of a gray area to me.

                                Thanks!
