I'm hoping it was obvious that I was joking about the exotic veneer and finish. My point was just that your only low scores were the aesthetics and that is relative to some nearly flawless finishes and I don't think that is where you were concentrating your efforts relative to sound quality.

SQ is always more important, but the Zingers I felt were finished pretty nicely for being a faux-finish wood-look. There is no veneer on them except what came on the plywood baffles.

          Tom Perazella:
Overall frequency response good. Slight problem in upper bass. Transients good. Voices good. Separation of voices and instruments good.

          Vance Dickason:
Unusual aspect ratio for the cabinet. Nice Damping treatment on the front baffle.

          Jerry McNutt:

Deep thinking. Nice fix to diffration issue.

          1. Wow. Very good clarity. Good balance. Nice layers of sound.
          2. Great image. Tons of inner details. Great vocals. Great pace in bass.
          3. Great dynamics.

          Very Good !!

          ------------

          My comments:

So, Wolf, looks like you were right on track. Very tight scoring. I got a somewhat higher originality/design score. From what I can tell, it looks like the judges really liked my super deep cabinet and the way I fixed my faceting boo-boo with mortite and a black foam rubber shroud. Go figure.

My Comments: Overall I was pleased with the Safaris score considering I threw them together in two weeks, had almost no time to voice them, and was still assembling them the morning we were leaving. Tom and others commented the Safaris were a touch bright. This is confirmed on measurement. I made a last minute decision to lower the tweeter resistor from eight to seven ohms. I think I was so impressed by the corundum tweeter that I wanted more. Perhaps if I had more listening time I would have raised the resistor again after the honeymoon phase with the tweeter. Vance commented on the interesting woofer network topography. I was originally thinking the M8N breakup was going to take multiple LCR notched in addition with a steep LPF to deal with. I got the courage to try simple tank filters from Nick S's Peanuts and they ended up working out way better than I ever would have expected. I personally feel tanks usually render a driver dull sounding and lifeless but the M8N was an exception to this.

Tom mentioned the RSX had a heavy balance. I did too. I tend to voice my speakers a bit heavy to begin with as I like a full heavy sound. I listen to a lot of rock and metal and the heavier voicing works well with the guitars. They do not sound this full at home and I didn't intend them to be as full as they were. I noticed the room had a midbass bloom on a lot of speakers. I don't imagine my voicing and multiple 10" drivers played nicely with the room.

Again, cant say this enough, I very much enjoyed meeting and talking with all of you. It was great getting to hear all of your designs as well!

            -Chris

I saw it. I scored between your multi-class entries, and only barely exceeded your 8" 2-ways in scoring. Tight indeed! I'd like to see the network for those since Vance thought it unorthodox.

                  My comments:

Quite a variation in scores on this one. Probably due to mounting the woofers on the inner sides of the cabinets with an xover of 385 Hz. When I was voicing, I found that I could alter the mid-bass perception quite a bit by changing the tow in angle or setting up the speakers with the woofers facing out.

Did you go back in and try to edit the post? I have had this happen a number of times. I'll post something, then I will try to edit the post to fix a typo and the system will flag it as spam. I was also able to read your post before it disappeared. Good job of the RSX speakers.

Looks like it’s back. I saw that I was only a half point behind you. Nothing unorthodox, just a 4th order electrical low pass with dual tanks and third order electrical hp.

The spam error did happen during an edit. The edit also happened right when the website crashed for about five minutes too. I think I broke the internet!
