I heard this morning that Mr Baker had passed away at 80.

From everything I've seen or read, he was a 'challenging' character, but a great musician.

I met him briefly. During my college days, late 60s, Cream played a concert at our school, but there was a blizzard the night of the show and they arrived very late, like 2AM. They played until 4, then they wanted something to eat. Ginger went to bed; I went to breakfast with Eric Clapton and Jack Bruce.

Beware of Mr Baker, a fascinating documentary about Ginger, about 1 1/2 hours long and I was riveted. The opening scene gives you an idea of what type of bloke he was.

For me one of the most disturbing parts of the film - apart from Ginger whacking the film-maker in the nose and giving his 15 year old son drugs- was when the film-maker asked Ginger's fourth wife whether he was a good stepfather. The poor lady was absolutely terrified to answer.

Ginger the musician is discussed in this nice clip which looks at his work in "Sunshine of Your Love". I'd never realised that he only used the snare drum in the chorus:
