....and Dan had a portable player and headphones when he rode with you to events. ;)
    I still think that's funny!

None of you gentlemen ever have 'background' music playing at home? Every home listening session is critical listening? There is no reason a car cannot have a performance sound system for those stationary times that generally plays background music when driving. I used to spend 3-4hours a day commuting. A performance car audio system was a necessity for me.

I believe we should be applauding the pursuit of music betterment regardless of the environment - be it living room, bedroom, or driving room.

I doubt your background music needed kilowatt amps. Just saying.

Assuming you're commenting to me, I don't ever remember Dan having either and using them when we commuted together a couple or so times to Iowa. I do remember we both played our demo CDs in route, but those were obviously brief. I also think I remember that Dan one time brought along some of his preferred CDs that we played in addition to some of mine. No matter, we got along fine and had a good time.

FWIW, I do most of my music listening in the car, as SWMBO has commandeered the living room for her watching of Netflix movies and series. My 2nd system is my main PC's multimedia system, which consists of modified Logitech speakers and a DIY subwoofer. As a result, a good chunk of my $$$ has gone towards getting the best out of my car audio system.

Oh but it did. Overcoming noise floor, headroom, and plain just wanting to blur my vision whenever I felt like it demanded it That is the fun part of mobile audio that is hard to get in the home.

By far the most powerful (and expensive) system I have ever owned is currently sitting in my garage waiting for me to dump into my Mercedes. Zapco AP amplifiers and DSP, Audiofrog 3way front end, Focal 40KX subwoofers. At 49 I could finally afford it!

Why do guys like Steve Meade, or JPrice run 40 to 100Kwts ? They don't know what they are doing either ?
Quite honestly, in many ways, they don't. Just a few minutes into some of his videos on enclosure tuning varies that

I second the need for the occasional blurring of vision 😀 lol

A car would definitely be hard to get in my home and after just a few stiff drinks my vision becomes blurred, but why would it be hard to get stupid loud in a home?

I have no problem reaching concert levels, 115-120dB, at my chair in my living room. Doing so in a car is childish, and potentially deadly. Distracted driving isn't always a visual thing.

That's what I took it as Ben, although my memory isn't nearly the steel trap as yours and I can't be certain one way or another.

If the first watt sounds bad, why do you want 1,000 more? Music has peaks, that is why you need headroom. If you are just running sine waves, and are only chasing SPLs then by all means go for max watts. If you are listening to music, you need power in reserves for dynamics. If you just want it louder, run everything through an audio compressor, that will ensure there are no peaks or valleys, everything will all be loud. It won't sound musical, but it will be loud. I have a 4,000 watt Crown amp for my 18" sub. I bet 99% of the time I am only using <100W.
