I've seen various audio software hosted on some crazy looking sites, ones I wouldn't click with a ten-foot pole.

That's the rub with the software tools we use, the market is still very much niche. So individual developers, tiny teams or companies can't afford the certification process to submit to Microsoft and eliminate the warnings upon install. The web sites are often amateur, and not super easy to find.

To Stash: these programs are used by many of us without issues. I can vouch for REW and ARTA provided you're downloading direct from the source and not some shareware aggregate site. Also, REW is written by a European, so the spelling of "Analyse" is very much normal. Across the pond they likely think us Americans butcher the English language.

HornResp had a problem a few months back, setting off a total lockdown when attempting to install updates. What's worse is that when it does an update it first clears the previous version out of your system, so when you tried to install the update and couldn't do it the old version was gone. They got it fixed, but it was a PITA having to transfer it back into my laptop that is my main workstation from my desktop that's my backup system.
