Very sad indeed, the news brought a tear to my eye. What a great loss to the audio world.

I know a few of us are keeping an eye on this thread in case someone does hear from him. I'm not sure whats going on, and even though its probably none of my business if it's personal, I would still like to help in any way if possible. Also since this thread doesnt start being viewed as OT... I put in an order for my 6 x 6 JBL WG's today.

    Peace to you Zilch.

    Active x-over

One of the facets of Zilch's work is the ability to bi-amp through the passive crossover. He set it up that way.

Hence, going active is less of an issue than might first be apparent. ;)

The further the measuring distance the better. You want a far field measurement--a couple times the wavelength in question. Obviously that's not possible for very deep.

Why does Zilch use 44" distance when he takes his measurements instead of 1 meter (39.4") ?

I agree, it's been quite a while since he's posted anywhere. I've sent him a few emails about the prototype waveguides but haven't heard back. He's usually pretty quick with responses.

Hopefully he's doing okay and just took some time off from the 'interwebs' to get other stuff done. I'd make a quick call if I knew his number.
