    Re: Flex Your PCD Mettle:

I would LOVE to build 3 of these but have no idea how/where to start. I was thinking I would use the Selenium D220Ti-OMF-8 For HF but what should I use for the mid range horn?

EconoWave is 2-way; you don't need the tweeter horn.

D220Ti-OMF is bolt-on. Wait for Parts Express to get the QSC 152i waveguides available for us again, or begin with the standard EconoWave combination of the thread-on D220Ti and Dayton H6512 waveguide:

Zilch if I have asked this question once before I apologize, but what are the efficiencies of the Deluxe and the SR? Are the 100db/watt systems?

          Re: Flex Your PCD Mettle:

If you check Pete's recent posts in this thread, he estimated them, and I suggested that, since all builds are done under the same conditions here, the others may be gleaned by comparing the final FR curves in the Summaries.

There are no 100 dB EconoWaves yet built and posted in this thread, no; a couple MAY be approaching 95 dB, and might be pushed higher using "0.5" alignments to minimize BSC, and JBL's FAT™ filter topology could garner a couple of dB more in some instances. I have conceptually introduced that in the E-Wave Mini thread, and may be able to provide further details for efficiency hounds once we complete some TWW builds over there.

EconoWave itself, the HF section, is not the limiting factor in this; it'll get to 100+ dB, no sweat....

            Re: Flex Your PCD Mettle:

Well I was looking at the SR and the lowest efficiency on that system is the woofer at 97db/watt.

I was more curious if the crossover reduced the efficiency somehow. I am thinking about doing a 7 channel setup with SR's all around. The mini's look to be about the same price as the SR just a little less, spend a little more get a little more I always say.

Those dayton woofers sure are heavy though, holy crap I remember hanging my 10" surrounds and thinking these shouldn't be that heavy.

Pleased with them SRs, are ya? ;)

Yes, the lowpass filter typically includes some baffle step compensation and also flattens the response. Look back to the raw driver curves to see how much efficiency that eats up....

Haven't built any yet. The difference between the SR and the original is the waveguide and the woofer correct(with a couple of crossover changes)? Just running the numbers and the SR's look like the best bang for the buck speakers that i can build for the inlaws.

Not sure if I would build them for myself though ;)

Saw this on another forum - perhaps it's worth a try building an Econowave using this box instead, or are these prefabbed poly boxes with built-in horns frowned upon?

When they are MantaRay generation diffraction horns, not waveguides, they are frowned upon, yes....

                      More HolmImpulse:

I improved the FR by changing the xover as I took many, many measurements.

Needs more work. See my post #993 on page 50.
But it seems to be getting there slowly.

Subjectively it sounds very good. My best effort in over 20 years of on and off speaker building.

Zilch, have you ever considered using one of the dayton 2 channel crossovers? I know you helped reece with his line array build. Sure it may not be ideal but it may help some people that are not interested in soldering.

                              I'm just bouncing ideas around.

Gonna have to solder (or wire-nut) anyway; review the 13 project summaries thus far posted in this thread (go to the first post for links to them), and you'll see that each and every crossover is custom, and different....
