  • OT but Carolina bound...

Well it looks like I'm headed for the Outer Banks for a bit of a trial run starting next week. At least two weeks of work (plenty of that to do), beaches and whatever else I find to do. There is a good possibility of me coming right back after the two week stay. I had a decent interview this past Friday in Indianapolis but I won't know if I got that position and it wouldn't start until the 20th of September anyway.

Who knows, I might be a transplant if the winds blow the right way. Got some family inland to visit as well so I will be a busy boy but I've been wrestling with myself and doing a lot of soul searching and now is as good as time as any to do this. Later on my friends. Next time I log in here I'll be somewhere other than where I am now...

Right now I have a lot of little things to get in place before I hit the road.

Don't forget to check out the mountains... Chimney Rock, Mt. Pisgah, Mt. Mitchell, Grandfather Mountain, etc, etc. Or go through Cherokee and hit Hwy.441... unbelievable beauty!!!!!!

I hope you choose the best route for yourself, and wish you luck. But- know you'll be missed in the Hoosier state.... It won't be the same at InDIYana, MWAF or Iowa without you.

Have fun, and get a tan! :D

I'm not too far from the OBX area - let me know if you want to come visit! Good thing you won't be there towards the end of this week since Earl is visiting

We are looking forward to having Shawn step in and give us a hand here for a while, just sorry he won't be here until after the party is over! Of course, when it rains it pours and as soon as I give him an offer for seasonal, he gets a possible for permanent. So, the answer is to find a friend and get an offer that sounds like a bunch of fun and the skies will open and the offers pour forth. So Ben, how are you at Photoshop -

And I might even get a chance to drag him out to the mountains and the music scene near Asheville! Should be a good visit, see ya soon buddy!

Best of luck regardless if this works out well, but check to be sure the Outer Banks are still there before you leave...

I figured it was with you somehow. And- I'm not, whether meant tongue in cheek or not.

Biff, My wife & I spent a week in a friend's cabin near Brevard a few years back. Is the music festival part of the "music scene near Asheville"? That is a beautiful area. Lot of Illinois folks seem to retire there.

                        Good luck Shawn,

Our mountain house is close, near Maggie and Waynesville. Everything around there is alive with music. My favorite is the Lake Eden Art Festival in Black Mountain. Both the Orange Peel and Grey Eagle in Asheville have great stuff - last time out I saw Guy Clark and Verlin Thompson there, Tift Merritt just before that, Nickel Creek with Bela Fleck, Dave Rawlings and Gillian Welch, so many great shows, so little time. Check out the Carolina in the Fall festival and the Grandaddy of 'em all - Merlefest! I will make it out this fall for trout fishing and acoustic music. My idea of heaven.

I saw BOC twice in the early 90's in a smallish bar just outside of Asheville. Great both times. Don't recall the name of the bar though, I remember a good deal of reflective mylar and being surprised that the bar got the bands it did.

There was also a good music scene in Greenville, NC. A really cool bar was called the Attic. They often had headliners there.
