  • Almost on topic

My wife has suggested this evening that varnishing the Malbecs will go best after a couple glasses of Malbec. If it doesn't go so well, I won't notice, or won't care.

Maynard, your wife is a gem and apparently knows you better than you know yourself! :p

p.s. My wife puts up with me and this hobby quite nicely, too.

Kinda OT, I was thinking of picking up a bottle of Malbec in the $15-20 range, any suggestions?
Don't listen to me - I have not sold any $150,000 speakers.

The bottle I have open tonight is my current daily $15 favorite. Trivento Amador Sur 2008. Argentina. 73% Malbec, 15% Bonarda, 12% Syrah.

I still don't understand wine, tho I've had some particularly strong beers that were probably closer to wine than actual beer, and I've enjoyed them. So far most wines just don't do it for me tho.

An excellent point! So many of the so called wine experts pooh-pooh any thought of equating beer tasting with wine, dismissing beer as swill for the lower class.

They have no idea what they're missing....

Speaking of an excellent Point, I believe I have a few in the fridge!

                Maynard, lets see...
                Varnish vapors.
Add the influence of some fine wine.

I'd think your wife is bringing you to new highs!

I too am lucky to have a wife who supports me in this hobby (and yes, sometimes with wine).

So, you bringing in a case for the event? I picked some of this up after touring the winery - it was quite good.

I prefer a good scotch to wine any day, but I have to agree with evilskillit as I have had the opportunity to try some very good (as well a pricey) beers from around the world. I'm sure to some people Natty Light doesn't compare to a fine wine, but there are a few beers out there that would give em a run for thier money!

                    Re: Almost on topic

I have the distinct pleasure (or perhaps misfortune) of living about 5 miles away from a giant liquor store with a great selection of import and micro brew beer. I can't remember the last time I bought a six pack of yellow domestic. Every time I go I either get a 6 pack of some interesting import or microbrew or go to the singles section where they keep the larger bottles of specialty stuff. Mmmm. To date I've tried almost every IPA they sell, and there are more than a couple.

Yeah I can see how that would be tempting at times lol. I'm looking forward to Amber Bock putting thier Jack's Pumpkin Spice Ale on the shelves for fall. It's not an import, but still one of my favorites. An old room mate of mine and I decided we were going to brew our own beer. Three failed attempts later we got some good tasting suds, then we experimented and came up with a recipe using honey which was REALLY good. Served it at a party and it didn't last long.

We make grain belt here in minnesota.

We also make Surly, which everyone should try if they haven't.

My favorite wines are Chateauneuf-du-Papes and Lalande-de-Pomerols ..

My favorite scotch is the Ardbeg.

Also, who keeps rating every thread one star? It's weird.
                              I am trolling you.
