How I Ended My 'Summer Vacation'.

I join the Working World again on Monday! I've accepted an offer to join the sales and promotions department of a non-commercial radio station here in the Fox Valley of Wisconsin.

The stations mission is to support the non-profit organizations here (Habitat for Humanity, Goodwill, Harbor House Womens Shelter, etc) and my job is drumming up support through the business community (it's not selling 'radio ads'...that's illegal).

The station format is almost a perfect reflection of the music we all use to voice our designs - and what we heard in Iowa over the weekend, Adult Contemporary, Swing, Big Band, and Jazz.

I couldn't draw up a better career position for myself if I tried!

To all of you who shared words of encouragement with me over the past few months - a sincere and heartfelt Thank You!

Congrats and much luck! My first love was radio broadcasting and even went to school at night for broadcasting/journalism while working at the audio store. I did some graveyard work at a new FM station in Olympia, Wa. in the mid 80's, but the format changed pretty quickly, and I wasn't about to do wuss-rock, I mean, soft rock and top-40. So does this mean you'll also be doing the 'wood' working world thing with some new projects?

Are you familiar with KEXP out of Seattle? It's a community supported radio station and a great asset to the music community. You can listen live online at kexp.org.

They're also working with business supporters. If you listen to them for a day, you'll find some of their tactics interesting. The latest is getting the local business owners to talk about why they "power kexp." I'm sure you're on top of it.

              Congrats on the position.

Hey Marty, let me know when you've got that measurement rig up and running. I'll stop by.

                          Congrats.

I graduated in May and have been looking for a job ever since. Congrats brotha. I definitely know the feeling of uncertainty and hope that comes with the job search. It must be a great feeling to see the light at the end of the tunnel. :D

Way to go Marty!! I knew you would land something soon. You can't keep a good man down...wait, that was a country song by Alabama, I think. :p Since you will be working so closely with music buffs, you might get a chance to convert some new folks to the DIY side!:D
