Got this driver a couple of years ago on ebay for a bit over a $100. Had it collecting dust on the shelve all this time. Oh well.
So, the reason I'd like to build TL for it now is this. Phil had the same driver in acoustic suspension our last NY DIY and it sounded very impressive. I am thinking, hey why not throw it in the line and see how it does there. How will it compare subjectively?
Phil, you didn't sell yours, I hope, because I'd like you to bring it back over again.
Anyhow, some quick free air measurements. All "near field" with the woofer seating on the flimsy paper box. Didn't have time today to cut a panel for the testing baffle. But the idea is there and it's clear what the driver is capable of.
Next week I'll make a cutout piece for my testing baffle and do it again.

Distortions with 3volts on the terminals and 1.5.
CSD confirms distortion picks and shows energy storage issues under a 1000hz. Not a big deal really, it's not going to be a woofer in a 3 way system but a dedicated sub not doing much past 100hz.

      Quick modeling in TLwrx.
I'd like to get the response in to 30hz region and not have and overly monstrous box.

Just curious why you want to build a transmission line for it, instead of running the PR.

Btw, grats on the Ebay score!

as of now I have 3 23w subs in my house.

              the maple one

the one I just built with the passive radiator

and an ugly one in an overbuilt 1 cu ft box.

I don't mind bringing all three to your shop for comparison testing. My wife has vacation until Jan 3. Maybe I can figure a way to bring them to brooklyn. phil

I buy interesting drivers for "future" projects from time to time.

PRs have been done before for this driver. Subjectively I prefer the sound of TL loading and decided to try. Qt and other parameters are good for TL. Extended bass response, slow roll off, transient response.

Is there a problem with an overly monstrous box ? :D

But damn those big boxes sound good 25 Hz .Very hard to get that kind of sound out of a little shoebox !;)

Me too! worse yet I have two half pairs done with the parts to finish sitting on a shelf. My speaker building slowed down a lot since I was doing THE MAC MINI upgrades venture on ebay. I upgraded around 75 of them in 09 and 10. I made a few bucks but my speaker building really slowed down.

Beautiful driver - the numbers look excellent for a TL. Any particular reason why you settled on six foot overall pipe length?
