  • Sure Headphone Amp?

Has anyone used the sure amp boards as a headphone amp? I have a pair of grado alessandro ms-1i's that i am looking to power. IIRC, they are 32ohm. Sure makes a 2w x 2ch amp, but that would leave me with 1/4w. Then, the next smallest stereo amp I believe is the 15w x 2ch resulting in 1 7/8w @ 32ohm. Would either of these make decent amps? Anything should be better than my iphone...

The 15x2 would make a pretty beefy headphone amp (in terms of power). Still if you are interested in building a headphone amp I might go with a class A headphone amp kit. There are some that are not that expensive and I have to believe that being purpose built they would be better for this kind of thing, but if you want to go this route I would love to see the outcome. It seems like a cool idea.

Ive seen quite a few of those class A's. i feel that a class D would be better for battery life. With these small sure amps, you can easily make a little case form them and really personalize it to your tastes.

I use a speaker amp for headphone too, just watch the volume and you should be fine.

This is what I use: http://www.wyred4sound.com/webapps/p.../117839/612512

It has a headphone section, but it's not powerful enough for my Hifiman HE-6s, so I made a harness where I can easily switch between them and my desktop speakers.
