  • Infinity 1260 subwoofer design help

I am working on a horn design for a Infinity 1260 that I will be powering with a 100watt plate amp. I have a corner in my room that will fit a 18w*24d*48t subwoofer very nicely.
I downloaded Hornresp but I will have a big learning curve I'm sure. So I was just wondering if anyone could help me model this and show me some screen shots?
My room is a singal stall garage that has been finished off. wood walls and celing with carpet floor.
I am a compentent woodworker (10 years of finish carpentry) so I can exicute almost any box and will take on a complicated desing for better results.
Thanks for the help I lookforward to learning more through the process as this is my first home subwoofer build.

    Ken

I'm not sure that driver lends itself well to a horn enclosure. You can probably get the same performance with a ported enclosure IMO.

With a 1260, you want the simplest design. 35 - 45 liters net, sealed. Give it at least 300watts.

      F3/F10 35 / 22. 109dB @ 300 watts, below Xmax everywhere w/ a 18Hz 2nd order hipass.

      65 liters vented, 4x18 vent. F3/f10 26 / 21. 112 dB @ 300 watts. below xmax above 20Hz. No need for a horn w/ this one.
I was so much older then, I'm younger than that now.

However, there is still no reason this driver couldn't be implemented in a horn loaded design if that is what someone wants to do.

Ken and I chatted last evening about this, and I supported his desire to go with a horn due in part to his having currently only 100 watts to power it. Also, it is a chance for this excellent driver to be utilized in something else entirely.

Ken, I know nothing of Hornresp but odds are someone has written a tutorial on it.

lilmike in avs made a taped horn tutorial with hornresp:

Before moving to an apartment I was considering modeling the 1262 in a horn.

Re: Infinity 1260 subwoofer design help

Part of the reason for wanting a horn is that I have built over 100 sub woofer boxes when I worked in car audio, but never a horn. I've only heard one horn sub woofer and it was amazing. Hopefully I can use a great woofer in a great box and end up with something special.I'll be reading through the tutorial tonight... Thanks for the link.
Fastbike1/Isaeagle4031 Thanks for showing me those numbers and giving me that information it is great information to have I will look to that as a challenge.
Diy something amazing might be the only goal even if it only matches the specs of a ported box.

Go for it. Needing a horn vs wanting to try a horn are two different things. It would be nice to see something different.

David McBean is the author of Hornresp and has a thread in the Subwoofer forum at DIYaudio.com. (I know a lot of folks don't care for this forum, but that's where McBean is)

I toyed a bit with hornresp last night using the 1262 and got a decent sub for ~19-65hz. But the fr after 65hz gets quite ugly and is huge (298 liters). It may work as a bench :p

If you truly want to build a horn:

                        1. Sell the Infinity 1260
                        2. Buy a decent but cheap pro audio driver, like the Dayton PA310
                        3. Design and build a horn around the pro audio driver.

So far I can not duplicate the results of a ported box with a horn of any type. Hours of research...putting nails into its coffin.
I will continue to explore options such as band pass ect. ect. and see what I come up with. Any ideas are welcome.

Jhollander where is that txt file from did you measure it or is that Infinitys measurement?

The txt file is the horn response export file. Save that to the HR import folder and import, etc. DIY Speaker guy may also have a sim, check you private messages.
