Re: * Sonata SoundBar Project Done *

I think I missed the thread originally. Great project! I love it.

How does the IR volume module see the signal from the remote unifier? Did you run a blaster LED in that chamber?

      Hi Andy,

I've used the B3N on other projects, so just wanted to try a new paper cone driver. You pointed out the obvious - lower Fs, good Xmax, a little more sentivity - and those were the specs I focused on as well. The other thing I didn't want to do was countersinking all 4 drivers on such as narrow baffle. I really like the sound of the soundbar, now that it has a good amp to push it. Thanks.

I was wondering if you have any experience with the Hi-Vi 3" (like the B3N) to compare against the DS90?
The B3N is a little cheaper and has been used in many good sounding designs.
I see it is a little less sensitive and doesn't go as low. Any other reasons you used the DS90?

      Thanks, Andy.

Yes, the blaster LED is installed about 1/2 inch away from the IR module of the motorized pot. I experimented quite a bit with the distance between them to get the optimum response.

          Andy,

I have (somewhere) plans for a 3" Hi-Vi based T-line, two of which could be joined, turned on their sides and used as a center channel.

If you are interested, I'll find the info and sent it to you.

This is really a great looking project and really needed with today's televisions as most have rear mounted tinny sounding speakers.

If these can be built for $100 i would imagine they will be popular as everybody is switching to newer style TV's and not everyone wants the hassle of installing a home theater.

            The black looks very professional.

                Thanks for the offer Beau.
I was mainly just curious since I have dome a couple of projects with the different HiVi 3" drivers and thought they sounded really good for what they do.

What do you use your T-lines for, desktop fullrangers? What are their dimensions?

                thanks, Andy.

                  Andy,

I've used the T-Line for a full range. I have a few different plans on file.

I have them at home, but here is an example of one I've used: http://translate.google.com/translat...0%26bih%3D1002

Forgive my ignorance, but how do go about choosing the correct pot? I see lots of different values and I've been trying to figure out which one I would use if I was going to use one of these amp boards for a desktop amp and use the pot for volume control.

That is the single funniest thing I've ever seen.

                            And today, I needed it.
