The box's external dimensions are 7 X 13 x 20. The tweeter is mounted 2 1/4"s from the top and the woofer is 8 1/8"s from the top. The port is rear mounted and is 2 3/8"s from the top. The terminal cup is 3"s from the bottom. The box was lined with acoustic foam and stuffed with 8 ounces of polyester fill. The fill was positioned away from the woofer and port. The bill of materials has the port dimensions.

Wow... You guys don't mess around. I can't imagine this was second place but I read it was so close that there was a run off. I'll bet they are amazing.

Everything Ron does is steller. I'm guessing looks and finish were envolved in the final score.

Re: The Champs - ID 2015 2nd Place Speakers

Really nice job, Ron. I actually think I might have scored yours the highest during the initial judging, but I don't have my score sheets to know for sure. I'd like to see what I put on mine Mine went in the morning and yours was in the afternoon, so it got hard to do direct comparisons. I'm really glad we got a chance to do the head-to-head.

In the head-to-head, I think yours had just a bit better soundstage than mine, but the drum track that was played really stressed your woofers a lot and muddied things up a bit, which was what swayed my vote and I'm assuming a few others.

BTW, Roman remarked at the end that he thought it was interesting that the two highest scoring speakers ended up being the best looking speakers at the show Your cabinet work was great and my wife really liked the finish.

Bringing to DakotaDIY, Ron? Bring a different pair as well, if you want. Be interesting to see how different implementations of similar woofer sounds.
Don't listen to me - I have not sold any $150,000 speakers.

Thanks for the feedback and ata-boys guys. I was afraid a 3-way with a bigger woofer might have an advantage over my 2-way and it looks like that's how it turned out. I just felt like the budget leaned toward a 2-way. I thought the winning design made some smart design choices and was beautiful to look at. I'm looking forward to seeing how they put it all together and how it measured.

I will definitely be bringing these to SD Johnny. I'm pretty sure Ani will bring his ID entry as well.

I think that may have been done in the past, but all scoring and judging was sound only. We didn't see any speakers until after the winner was announced. It just happened that the two best sounding speakers were also inside some of the most beautiful cabinet work.

Yes, I will bring my ID entry to SD. I hope Arlis gets his too. Same design, but in different implementation of enclosure. Same internal volume and tuning, but mine is 0.23" ply and his is 3/4 mdf. We can see what effect thicker and heavier cabinets have!

There were several really great entries in this competition. I did score the Champs the highest in the first round. (Great job, Ron!)

Unfortunately I had to leave before the start of the run-off round, so would have been interesting to see if I would have maintained the same relative ranking between the two or shift it, as Kerry did.
