The Chorales - An Usher / Vifa Project

Well, I promised my wife - and myself - that I wouldn't buy another pair of drivers until I started using what I have in the closet. So, in order to buy more drivers, I have to put together a couple of projects. Having just finished the crossover for the Renditions, I was itching to breathe some more saw dust. I had a pair of Usher 8945A woofers and XT25 tweeters that I acquired a while back from a couple of the members here, so here we are. This combo has been done many times in the DIY community, but who cares? I'm going to build myself another pair of speakers because I don't have enough. Hehe.

    Day 1.
Broke the woofers in overnight and determined T/S parameters, then loaded them in BassBox Pro to model the box, which volume turns out to be 0.6 cu.ft (17" H X 8" W X 13" D), tuned at 40Hz, with a F3 of 45Hz. The vent is 2" X 7".

3/4" MDF is used, and the pieces are ready to be glued.

Runs are the result of too much material being sprayed .
I will sand with any thing from 320 grit to 1500 grit it just depends on the flatness of the surface being painted

Thanks guys, you're too kind. Of course, the measuring stick for painted cabs will always be Steve's Candy Kairos.

All done, finally. Some glam shots of the project, unretouched, with plenty of flaws. Soundwise, they're beautiful, in my humble opinion.

Thanks Kenny, John, Paul, Matt and Shawn for your comments.

Matt and Shawn, just give me a call. Always glad to have you guys over.

Pete, go to eBay and search for "3M DINOC Wood". I used the glossy Bubinga Wood vinyl. It comes in 15" wide, and you can get as many feet as you desire.

    Thanks guys.

Is that one of the wood grain gloss finishes? Where did you buy it?

They look mighty good to me and I didn't have to drink any alcoholic beverages to determine that!

They ain't going to look like Steve's Candy Kairos, but from 4 feet away and after a few beers, they look perfecto. Well, another thing I tried was the 3M Dinoc. After the third panel, I finally got it. Wrapping around round corners was pretty difficult at first, but once I figured out how much heat to apply on the material, it was a joy to use. Perfect material for challenged people like me.
