A good man, a good race car driver... a real loss.

I think I recall seeing some discussion after the Targa Tasmania about the Superformance Shelby Daytona Coupe needing some redesign in the rear suspension, possibly having an excessively high roll center that would make the rear jack up with quick changes in latteral loading, creating a dynamic instability problem at the rear, a real handful in a tarmac rally. I'm not having any luck finding any of that commentary with Google.

Damn...such a loss. Was it an Australian rally? Second to motorcycle racing, rally is my next favorite. SPEED channel used to show not only the World Rally, but the SCCA rally run in the US. I've attended one of the rounds that is held near Olympia, WA...incredible stuff being a spectator near a tough corner! Unfortunately for us rally fans, SPEED dropped their coverage of WRC in favor of more nascar shows. Now I can't get to watch that great in-car footage...well, if I had broadband I could get live feeds through the WRC web-site, but all I have in this rural area is dial-up. Andy, do you get to see any of the rallies on Aussie TV?

It was a tarmac rally in western Austrailia. Below is a pic of Brock in the same car in another tarmac rally earlier this year, the Targa Tasmania.

NASCAR motorsports is similar to WalMart and Bose products, very popular and seemingly well marketed, but not very interesting compared to what else is avaialable in the world of motorsports.

              Ahh... A kindred spirit

Plainly put, NASCAR sucks. Period. Some of the most boring stuff I've seen from both a technological and entertainment standpoint.

More on subject, that's a big shame about Peter Brock being taken away from us. What a talent to be lost. I felt the same way the day I found out Richard Burns had lost his battle for life the way he did. So sad.

That pretty well sums it up. There's also the prerequisite sub-100 IQ required to watch it, or you could suffer permanent intelligence damage. I've seen this happen to people. My brother fell victim, it was really sad to witness the slide.

I don't remember missing seeing any of the Bathurst races on Tv basically since i was old enough to know what they were about. Brocky was "King of the Mountain" 9 wins in one of the toughest races. I have driven around the Bathurst circuit at legal road speed. In parts over the top even that was pretty scary, it isn't a normal race track by any means !!
To think that those guys can drive around it at the speeds they do for 1000km, just makes me hold them in awe !!
When a true ambassador for the sport comes to grief the way he did, its a real pity. I admit to spedding a tear.

I really wish I could find a pic I took at the USGP a couple of years ago. This guy had a shirt that read "Too smart for NASCAR, Too dumb for opera." Classic.

there's only one NASCAR event worth watching, and that's the one in upstate NY on that road course, the one with left, and right, and up and down.

Otherwise, left, left left left left left. 800 times in one race. Just for grins, why don't they go clockwise for a change????
