    Ref: thread 07-30-2008, 08:33 AM,
Sounds to me like you have the RS-8....two way speaker with IMG woofer with phase plug, twin passive radiators of IMG material and the Polycell tweeter..... Cabinet net volume is about 2.25 cu.ft Not damping material in the lower 2/3 of the cabinet to speak of. You could improve that speaker by changing to a vented design. I changed a pair to a 1.6 cu.ft. vented which simulated as being optimal for that speaker. I thought the bass was slightly more authoritative and deep as compared to the passives. I also did a remake of the crossover, since not only did the cabinet change a bit, but I also thought the midrange was a bit "bright" and sibilant in the treble as well.
Just so you know....if this IS the RS-8 that you have, those 8" woofers are 4 ohm impedance. I wish I had kept the crossover schematics of the changes I made, but I DO remember that I used about 50% of the stock components that were on the board....the rest were changed out for different values, including the woofer circuit's inductor. It also ended up sounding much smoother and less "in your face".

I know this is an older thread but I'm hoping you can help me.
I have a pair of Infinity RS-625 that I just re-foamed with rubber rather than foam. Glue is still setting. They didn't come out bad but I cracked 2 of the plastic surrounds and I'm thinking they may vibrate when the bass kicks.
Couple of questions, if you could.
In your reply to the above thread you suggested changing to a vented design. How would I do that?
My speaker description sounds identical to the RS 8.
    1 tweeter, 1 woofer & 2 passive radiators.
Could I eliminate 1 of the passives and replace it with a woofer.
Could I eliminate both ? I believe these woofers are 6 ohm, can I replace just the woofer with an 8 ohm ?
I do apologize for all the questions but I'm new to the speaker repair thing. I've googled & researched and your the 1st I've seen that suggested venting. Very curious how that's done.
I would have attached to the existing thread but it was so old I wasn't sure anyone would see or reply. This is why I sent you a private message.
I would appreciate any help/suggestions you can provide and sorry this is a bit long.
Looking forward to hearing from you.

If it doesn't fit right the first time, you obviously need to use a larger hammer.
