No I haven't. The next few months are finalizing several designs I started last year. I hope to get back to it soon. But I have it narrowed down to one baffle design that should be the best compromise so far.

Hey pete, I was directed to you for help . I want to breakdown my vince's vht's and do an mtm with just the vifa pl27 and the da175's from that build. I was wondering if you had a crossover for this? Thanks for the help, Bob (bobbeyo@yahoo.com)

hello Pete Schumacher - I'm new to this forum, but not to audio. I cruised around and read some of your stuff, along with that of others here...and what I'm looking for is a bit of sage advice.

I recently purchased an NEC AVR-1000E on ebay ( Dolby surround processor/reciever with their scrumptious on-board amplifiers ) and therefore am contemplating speakers to match this unit...2 mains and 2 (or more) surrounds. I initially wanted full-range single driver mains, but after seeing the prices on the 10" Hartleys...I might have to reconsider. I've read about the Fostex drivers, and researched other options online, but haven't actually decided yet.

Also considered building a 2-way, with the stipulation that the crossover be outside the vocal range ( 5k or above ), thinking this would be an acceptable compromise to pure FR mains. I particular, I looked at the peerless 830884 - for its ability to go high, yet still allowing good bass extension...mated to the vifa/tymphany XT19TD (?)...or possibly a planar or ribbon ( ? )

Anyway - I want to take advantage of what this receiver has to offer ( it has a surround mode along with what I guess is a "panorama" mode ( ala Lexicon cp-3 ) ( cross-channel cancellation ) which NEC calls "holographic". I have a case of 4x6 drivers ( 4 ohm with wizzers ) that I'd like to use in the surrounds...possibly direct/reflecting ( Bose 901's)...so the only real question has to do with the design of the left & right mains. Should I stick with the full range single driver design concept, and if so, can you suggest any drivers ( 4 ohm ) that can actually do this task ( I know the Hartleys can !!! @ $700 a pair !!!)...

Or should I continue considering a 2-way with an above 5khz xover...or is this simply not do able ? I really don't want a setup that requires an active bi-amped sub, so I kept looking at drivers in the 8" size range...hoping to find both the LF extension AND the ability to cover up to 5khz or so, thereby maintaining the "wholeness" of the FR drivers.

Any advice would be welcomed - email direct if you like -

    thanks much - michael d

Thank you for your input on the Nuts? thread. You pointed out several things that escaped me and I really appreciate the guidance. FYI, I hand sketched the three-way you suggested it got preliminary wife approval today. All drivers on the front baffle though, behind a grill. Its the leading contender and the simplest to build. Again, thanks a lot for your input and guidance. ~ Scott_M

You have a valid point Pete. I uploaded a few pictures to see how it worked. They warrant more detail. I'll put it on my "to do" list.

Full range 4-way

by Pete Schumacher ® on 11-14-2008 at 02:18 PM
Well, I've been contemplating my "ultimate" system, ultimate within a reasonable budget, that can handle a 250W amp without batting an eye, and cover the full spectrum of HT effects to the subtlest nuances of the finest musical recordings. I intend this to be 100% passive XO. After the successful implementation of the Centilana and the Duelund topology, it would seem the only thing missing would be to anchor that design with a very good bass driver.

This will definitely
