Hi Chris. I got a new computer since we last talked about me getting out of my Luddite ways and getting started on the XOverSim. It is time to get crackin', since my project collaboration with Shawn A. has taken a year-and-a-half and now it looks like the woofers I shipped to him for XO measurement have somehow disappeared into a UPS/FedEx black hole. They were some Focal 4411B's with the polyglass cones, unobtainable now. I sent a pair of Focal tdx tweeters along as payment for his eefforts, the tweeters I was going to use with the 4411's. I bought some PE .75 ft3 MTM cabinets in anticipation of the Focal 2-way, but now I need to find another combo that'll work in those boxes. Something more high-end, so I'll see if XO sim made it on to the new 'puter. I appreciate the reminder, as it is time to get going. Thanks for your help.

    John A.
  2. I got a Blue Icicle ($33) and have a 10' XLR cable on the way ($11).
I'm going to try to use ARTA with my $44 measurement rig. I'll drop you a line when I think I know what I'm doing. Might be after the Holidays though. Not far off now.

    Hey Chris,

I could use your help. I'd like to measure my Chicago design just to ensure I'm hearing what I think I'm hearing. How 'bout we make a deal? You measure my speakers and I give you Soundeasy? How's that work for you?

    Cheers!

Chris, I've built a couple pairs of D8 MTM's now, using Wayne's Calsod crossover. I see yours now, with much less parts! Does it sound significantly different, and secondly, are either of these crossovers suitable for changing the driver layout to TMM? Thanks for any words you can provide!
  5. You'll be OK. Just keep them as close as reasonable.

Hey, so I bought the parts for the D8s but I didn't get the truncated tweeters. I was hoping you could point me in the right direction as far as how to come up with a new driver placement plan, or if there really is no way to do it without noticeably hurting the performance. In which case I would probably return them and get the truncated ones, I just don't know how I would cut a recess for the truncated ones.
  7. I've never been thrilled by Vifa woofers, but I love their tweeters. BUT I'm talking 5 yrs ago before the buyout/renaming/moving production out of Scandinavia, etc.

Never studied Klippel testing (I've heard of it). Don't know ErinH (if Zaph gave these the axe, I'd most likely dump them).

By spec, they look like they'd do 40 Hz in about a 1 cf vented box. I wouldn't call that a "sub" woofer, but at over 7mm of Xmax, not too shabby of a woofer (for a 2-way anyhow, if they're clean up to 2k or so).

I'm not telling you much. If you've gotten to feel bad about them, and you can get your money back, why not?

Recent klippel testing post by ErinH suggest they have quality control issues. I purchased these when on special for $80 and was thinking someone would eventually do a 2 or 3-way. P Schumacher used these in his most recent build, sorted through six to get two good ones. At this point with such a negative post I don't think anyone is going to rush out and design something with them and I have no way of knowing if mine are bad. Live dangerously at the expense of $160 or just return them?

Chris just looking for a little advise. I purchased a couple of the vifa ne225w-04 awhile back in hopes someone was going to come up with a project for them and now they are receiving some negative reviews. I do not design speakers and have no way of testing, I enjoy the woodworking part. I am thinking of just sending them back, what are your thoughts?
    Thanks
    Tim

I just did some research about my E90 tweeters. Spec crossover freq 300hz, 4000hz; sensitivity at 91db at 2.8volt 1metre; frequency 36hz-20khz -3db. Also the tweeter is 3/4 inch titanium laminate dome. It has a face plate and gasket attached to it. thank you for replying
