It's good to protect woofers against over excursion below the tuning frequency with a passive HP filter.
Not only is the woofer probably operating out of it's intended range below the tuning frequency, it's also basically useless wasted and counterproductive output since it's out of phase with the port - and , as mentioned previously, output at those low levels will cause excessive amounts of excursion.

I grew up in Indiana and I never heard soda called just "pop". "Soda pop" sometimes, yes. Maybe people said pop once in a while, but I think usually people asked for a soda by saying what kind they wanted, usually - i.e.: "I'd like a Coke/root beer/ginger ale/diet Pepsi...etc...". Then again, my extended family and friends generally didn't drink sugar water beverages other than natural fruit juice. I do like Tang, when I go on a long backpack trip up in the mountains
