Wow, you are awesome. Thanks a lot for clearing all that up! Now i feel more confident in my wiring. I hope to finish up my cabinets this weekend!
It's been a really fun project so far but I must say that for a person with little to no woodworking experience and a sever lack of tools (leading to much improvisation), this project has racked up quite a bill. I just hope they sound as good as everyone else's.
    Thanks again!
  2. If I've interpreted your question accurately, yes, you are correct. The Overnight Sensations tweeters are wired in reverse -- meaning the positive tweeter lead is connected to the negative terminal on the tweeter, and the positive terminal on the tweeter is wired to the ground terminal. I have to admit it's confusing -- I initially missed that detail in Paul's diagram. The diagram is correct, but perhaps I should add an explanation about the reverse polarity on the tweeters.

About the various terminals on the board: The two marked with positive and negative signs, are the input side, i.e., they connect to the binding posts on the back of the speaker, following correct polarity. Red for positive, black for negative. The three terminals grouped together and marked W, G, and T, are woofer (W), ground (G), and tweeter (T). Ground is common to both the woofer and the tweeter, meaning you use the same ground terminal for both.

    Hello!
I am a newcomer to this forum and audio equipment in general. I am a junior in college studying engineering and my interest in speakers over the past few weeks has led me to the Overnight Sensations. I've got all the components and I've started on the build. I just recently assembled one of the cross overs and I pretty much copied your layout and CAD drawings as closely as possible (being a mechanical engineer I'm rusty with all things circuits). This seems like a dumb question and stems from my lack of experience, but I was wondering if you could help me out with the rest of the wiring. In your diagram, the positive and negative labeled european style terminals which I assume are to be wired to the positive and negative terminals placed on the speaker boxes.
Then, the t,g,and w labeled terminals and the polarity of the tweeter is where I am a little mixed up. Would I connect the tweeter's positive side to the G terminal and the negative side to the T terminal? And if this is correct, would I then connect the midrange's positive side to the W terminal and the negative side to the G terminal?

If you could enlighten me a little I would really appreciate it! I am loving this project so far and just want to make sure I'm doing everything right.
    Thanks@

Finishing - What Level of Quality Do You Have In Mind?

by Soundslike on 09-18-2011 at 03:02 PM
Methods and techniques for finishing are one of the common issues discussed in the Techtalk forum. What seems like a simple issue is really quite complicated in that there are a myriad of different approaches to achieving a "good" finish. Adding to the complexity of the issue, various successful builders have their favorite methods and will vigorously defend them should someone suggest their own personal method is "better." Notice that I've used quotation marks around good
