    Default DIY "Klipsch" speakers, any designs?

    I like the high efficiency and reasonably good sound quality of klispch speakers. I know this has to do with the horn tweeters they use.

    Anyone have a good high efficiency design, like a diy look alike of a klipsch?

    Thoughts? (This is not a klipsch bashing post, please)

    Oh, heck no! I likee the Klipsch speaks also. I wish I could have afforded them back in the '60's...

    The man to talk to is Bill Fitzmaurice;

    I built one 'David' test box;

    But I got a Dayton 8" Classic in it now. Gotta wait til payday to get the right woof.
    The Dayton sounds deep and goes real low.

    Ditto on the FitzM stuff. I built the Tuba 18's, powered them with the PE 240watt, wired them in series - they ROCK. Clean, tight.....lots of parts though....about two dozen per enclosure and about a hundred screws....

    Yes none of the links are working. I like the sound AND look of Klipsch speakers. When I get a little bit better at the DIY speaker thing i plan on trying to design my own pair of TMMM towers utilizing a horn tweeter. Should be fun!

    There are also Klipsch plans including the Heresey floating around on the net, plans for a similar English company's speakers (forgot the name) and frugal-horn.com for even more ideas.

    System sensitivity is limited by the weakest link in the chain, in this case the direct radiating woofers. The horn tweeters have high sensitivity, but it's for naught as they have to be padded down to match the woofers.

    The real deal from Klipsch are the KHorn, Belle Klipsch and
    La Scala. Plans for them are out there. They are not the least bit easy to build.

    I've seen plans for a 1971 LaScala on a Klipsch Forum, and I agree with Bill. If you want to get as close as you can to the vintage series, in both looks and sound, you will need good tools, and deep pockets for the drivers + XOvers.

    What about a design using the Eminence Alpha 6a as the mid? It's pretty efficient and sounds good...what woofer would work at similar efficiencies without building a beast of a box? Is there such a thing?

    It's annoying to dig up an old thread to report that the links are broken. The web is a very dynamic place and forums are transient environments. Nobody is going to go through their old posts and update the links as they age, nor should they. This is expected behavior. If you want newer info, don't go to an old thread. Start a new thread requesting what you're looking for. And looking thru the posts, nobody has added anything new.

    Then he'd run the risk of someone telling him, "This has been covered before; do a search for the thread."

    Now op has learned that he can find some info on BFM's profile. So it is a valid way to ask.

    I do see your point, but more than once I have made similar finds/mistakes.

    I thought I might ask specifically about the Jubilees. Does anyone have some detailed drawings for them? I am kind of collection data on them for a future build some day.
