    Default Headphone driveable speaker

Ok, so I scrapped two small 8 ohm speakers out of a TV I found in my alley. I am attemping to make a speaker out of an adidas shoe box. If I wire the two speakers in series the total resistance would be 16 ohms, and would this be driveable by the output of something like the ipod? If so, how would i go about hooking them up to the 1/8th inch output?

No, even though most headphone output can drive 16ohms easily, it doesn't produce enough current to drive the speakers. They are designed for typical maximum output of 200mW. Not enough for speakers, unless you have extremely efficient speakers.

Chances are, it will be about as loud as a headphone.

I've tried this with my shuffle, but it could barely drive the low sensitivity drivers. you would need to either but a 1/8" male connector, or use te ipod's stock cable. but i dont recoment the latter, for it's very hard to seperate the 2 strands of wire, without braking them. if you want to drive real seakers using your ipod, check out the Sonic Impact T-amp. its on Partsexpress somewhere.

    Default Not those speakers...

I'm sure you would hear SOMEthing. But high efficiency drivers should be able to make some decent sound. There was a fellow I read about who showed off the sensitivity of his corner horns, using only the output of a portable CD player, which I think is the same level as an iPod. Those speakers produced 100dB with one watt.

All you do is use an 1/8 inch headphone cable and strip the ends. You have three wires: ground, left+ and right+. The ground goes to the negative terminal of both speakers, and the pluses go to the pluses of each one individually. Tiny wires though. It's a fiddly job.

I finished it up and it actually sounds decent, and is loud enough for what I'm doing with it. Not to mention it's very novel, hahaha.
