crossover questions??
Hi I need to make the best crossover I can for my
two way design. I want to put the tweeter on one
wood board and the midwoofer/woofer on the other
so there is on crosstalk.I want to use a 6db
crossover so it uses not alot of caps or resisters
if I spelled that right. IF they are both 8 ohms
do I need to buy a mills resister or can I leave
it alone? Also If i raise the ohms for the tweeter
is it brighter or softer? I heard this can make it
or brake it. Same question for the woofer as above.
I wanted to buy a woofer tester 2 but, thought
will it really make that much of a diffrence in
sound? I also need a crossover program and a box
model programe like cat. The cat program does not
have what I want. I just want to make it sound
right so I not have to fix it later. I thought of
putting the crossover outside the box on its
own little box between the amp and speaker box
I have seen a couple speaker companys do this just
in case they have to fix it or replace it with out
tearing the box apart. Is this o.k. or will it
hurt the sound? Also is there a diffrece in caps
sound like, oil,cotton,bees wax,or tin,gold,silver
is it really worth that much more to pay for the
caps. Is it a 10% ro a 80%. Thanks jm

> Where do I start. No need to split the crossovers as crosstalk should not be an issue.
Don't count on a 6 db crossover doing the trick.
Pad the tweeter with a series / parallel resistor to keep impedeance the same.
Crossover location will have no effect on sound.
Personally I fond no noticable difference in cap's. Others will say I am nuts but I thenk many agree.
Check out this sight fo a little help on circuits and box options. mhsoft.nl/spk-calc.asp
Good luck
