Well don't go with too cheap of drivers. You can sure make a really nice set of speakers though for less than if you went to the store to buy them. I would recomend some reading first though. This site has some good articles and i would also recomend "the loudspeaker design cookbook" by Vance Dicknson.

thanks man i was looking in the project sections and i saw http://www.partsexpress.com/webpage....WebPage_ID=222
i thought i might be cool to stick a pair of those under my gaming chair i just wish i could find more info about ppl that did stuff to enhance there gaming not entertainment system
but what really made me want to do this is when i looked at the "sub woofer" i have now it it is about 3 inches

The bass shakers are cool. Real simple to implement. You will just need to screw them to your chair and connect them with a small amplifier.

This forum is more audio related than gaming. You can search google and find more info on PC gaming audio setups.

If you want to build speakers, there are plenty of designs that will work for you. Keep in mind that you will need to power the speakers with an amp which is an additional expense.

First thing you need to decide is your budget.

Next is what wood working skills you have or have access to.

Most likely what you are after has been done by people here and they would be willing to help if you get specific with your needs.

That's the amp that I would recommend.
How much do you want to spend on the front speakers?

These are pretty cool. I made a set for my son-in-law's home theater. The woofers are inexpensive but sound very good and the tweeter is also very good and not too expensive. You might want to add a small subwoofer...maybe later.

hey dave, could you explain to me why you used a tweeter with these? I've read Krutke's site (http://www.zaphaudio.com/) and from what i understand, they make a great full range speaker. I'm a novice here, so i'm really looking for an explanation...i'm not trying to bust ***** here. I've been following this board for a few years now and i know you know your stuff. Feel free to go theoretical if you want, i will kind of understand it (unless it's not theoretical and you just didn't like the top end uf the b3n).

Not really. You could use the NSBs, but it would be a different speaker with a different enclosure and different crossover.

If you want to do an NSB project, check this out:

Full range use of the B3N is definitely something that can be done and John's measurements and listening recommendations are to be trusted. That said, I believe the Audax tweeter will provide a smoother more extended top end, although, since I haven't listened critically to the B3N full range, I can't say that for sure or that the improvement is significant. Alot will depend on your listening acuity in the upper ranges.

John's full range project would definitely be a good choice though -- very inexpensive and a very nice looking speaker.

What you gain from an MTM configuration is 6 dB/watt sensitivity (at the expense of lowered impedance) and a better (arguably) high end. Also, if use of a tweeter is assumed, two woofers is a better SPL match up with the tweeter since the woofers are only 81 dB/watt/meter -- two gives you 87 dB/watt/meter. Still short of the tweeter's 92 dB, but then much less L-Pad is needed on the tweeter. I don't normally feel using alot of attenuation on a driver is a good idea.

Anyway, that's how I ended up with the dB313 configuration.

wow this makes this project a whole lot harder maybe ill get a good pair of logitics and build the entertainment systems speakers

hmmmm, i see what you're talking about with sensitivity. would it be possible to do an MTM config but leave out the tweeter, guess that's an MM? I realize the x-over would change from zaphaudio.

Sure, why not. The baffle step compensation in the crossover would change -- probably just change the inductor to 4 mH and the resistor to 4 ohms. That should give the same step action. The notch filter would probably still work as is -- the target frequency stays the same although the Q of the notch would change. Let's see, halve the values of the resistor, and inductor and double the cap value (?) Also, double the box size. But, it would be best to ask John about this since it's his design and I'm making alot of assumptions -- he put alot of design effort into his project.
