Thread: RS SUbwoofers

    Default RS SUbwoofers

    Hi guys,

I am trying to learn more about speaker building and am wondering what is the difference between the RS subwoofers? Specifically, the 295-464 and the 295-466. I see that one can handle more wattage, but what is the advantage? Will it play louder, clearer, better? Why are they priced the same? Why not just produce one model?
    Thanks in adavnce,
    Ray

Designing a driver is always about tradeoffs, see the link below for more info(Hoffmans Iron Law)

The HF works best in larger enclosures with moderate power, the HO works best in smaller enclosures with higher power.

Go buy "Speaker Building 201" PE part number: 500-044

You are looking at the one parameter that you MIGHT understand and that is Pe. Look at the other parameters of the driver.

    There is a large difference!

The HO sub works better in smaller boxes but needs more power to reach the same spl level as the hifi version.

Isn't it also true that the HO in a small box will 'require' EQ'ing, while the HF in a bigger box can get by without it? (although you still might want to). Boyd

This is one of the best resources I have found in regard to speakers, and design tradeoffs.
