Paradigm crossover

Aloha, I have a paradigm center speaker that lost an inductor during shipment to me. I believe the speaker is a 370 model. I was wondering if any one would know what inductor I need to purchase for this speaker? I can take a pic if you need one. I am soooo clueless, plaese help.
P.S. I was quoted a price of 98 dollars including shipping and handling for a new crossover (they won't sell me just the inductor). Does this sound reasonable?

The price of the crossover sounds reasonable. The easiest way is to find someone with an LCR meter and measure the L and R component of the inductor. You could also find the same thing using SpeakerWorkshop and few resistors. In both cases, you'll have to find someone with some form of measurement equipment. You can't just eyeball the value.

Reasonable?

For them maybe. I can see why they would want to stick you for $98 when all you need is a $3 part.

You could buy an LCR meter, the correct inductor, and still be able to put $50 back in your pocket.

Call their 'service' department and see if they will sell you a copy of the schematic (have the model and serieal number handy), they should be willing to give it to you or at least tell you the value over the phone.

Good luck with that. I imagine they are much more interested in selling a $98 part than in giving away or selling proprietary information.

I would buy another of the same center speaker. Take it apart CAREFULLY, read the label on the coil if you can (or just rip it out and use it) then put it back together very neatly and return the thing for a full refund...'cos it's faulty.

BTYW, how could the inductor come off/fall out during shipping!? Through the port?! Are you sure the whole thing didn't fall out the back of a truck

There's bound to be someone close to you who could measure it for you. Someone on the board or at least some sort of TV/electronic repair shop. Shouldn't be that hard to find someone with an LCR meter.

The local 'Superstore' has a liberal return policy, I try and not abuse it too much.

I take a screwdriver in and ask to take apart the floor demo unit. When they say 'no' I tell them to sell me an open box unit 'cause I am just going to take it home, open it, and then bring it back for a refund anyway.

At that point they usually let me take apart the demo unit, they all want to see inside of it anyway.

One time I bought a chest of drawers from IKEA. Put it together from the kit, and the drawers wouldn't close smoothly. So I took it back.

I went to look around, came to the clearance room, and there it was already! My drawers, put together properly now...on sale this time! (I had put some screws in backwards.) Bought it again, 20% off!

But seriously, I was kidding about taking out the xover part. I consider that theft.
