Best way to use shrink tubing without heat gun?
Just a quick question for aeveryone. I want to use shrink tubing for some of my wiring, however I do not have a heat gun or even a hair dryer. Does anyone have another suggestion on what may work, preferably cheap? Thanks.

I haven't tried it, but I have seen folks post that a hair drier on the highest heat setting works.

You "can" use a propane torch... just keep it moving so as to not burn a hole, and keep it 4-6 inches away from the target. I like the trigger start nozzels. : )

I use a BBQ long nose lighter because it outputs
a big flame, for those bigger heatshrink sizes :hehe:

The barrel of a soldering iron works well.
don't use the tip, its too hot !

Re: BIC lighter
I once lit a boat on fire using a lighter to shrink. Damn gas fumes in the bilge. Anyway it only burned until I could find the dang fire extinguisher...which took too long in my panic.
Suffice it to say that the shrinky tube shrunk, as did all other plastics in the bilge compartment.
Be careful with fire.

Soldering iron, stove.
Yes, holding a soldering iron close to the wrap without touching it works. But it's very fiddly.
If it's the end of a wire, then you can hold it a few inches over a gas or electric stove. But your hands get hot.
I would just buy a hairdryer. It's good for cold days after you take a shower anyway.
