I finished the XOs for my Jubilees the other evening, and as is my wont, I clipleaded one to a set of drivers just for a rough approximation of how they'd sound. I'm not really crazy about the DC200 woofer, though I know why Darren picked it (project budget). Then my eye fell on the box of 4 RS-225s I got from the original DOTD back when they were first released. I swapped one in for the DC200, and what a difference!

Looking at just the specs on these, the sensitivity of the two is pretty similar, though the response curves are way different between 200 and 1000 Hz. The Jubilee woofer/mid XO is 600 Hz 1st order. OTOH, the breakup modes on the DC200 are much lower, about 2.5kHz as opposed to the RS225's 5kHz-10kHz.

I think the Peerless midrange is capable of better performance than the DC200, though I doubt it's as stellar as the RS225. So the question is, how much tweaking to I have to do to the design to swap in the RS225? I also have to model the enclosure to see if the RS needs a bigger box.

Yes, I'm doubling the woofer cost, but if the crossover changes are minimal, I think it'll be worth it.

Comments are welcome. Please tell me if I'm full of hot air, or living in a dream world.

Hope you guys had fun in Dayton!

Best regards,
Bill
