Any Feedback on my Seas MP14rcy/p and 27TBFC mtm??
I'd love any comments... They aren't done yet -- going to be adding a bit of low end on to them ... Any feedback is productive. If you thought they were great as they are let me know... If you think something about them was off or could sound better I would love to know about it so I can play with things a little more.
Thanks a ton,

Constructive Criticism-
I thought they shouted a little. The upper mids were a little harsh. Is there a peak in response, or another problem that could be causing this? I would think a notch, or a small XOver spread might help a little. How's the reverse null? Tweeter was nice.
Just my thoughts,

They modeled out pretty flat... then again I was modeling with published data...
I'd like to see how they actually measure -- I guess it is time to get a quality measurement setup...
Anyone else have a comment? Agree with the above?

Anyone Else?
Anyone else?
I assume this assessment was with the 2nd playing after the phase was corrected

I believe that's the go-around on which Wolf is commenting. I share his opinion that there just seemed to be a bit of a shouty quality to them but still a good sound. I was kind of surprised at how well that tweeter did the job. Well done.

Time to mess with the xover a bit more I guess I have a hunch it is on the tweeter highpass -- possibly I should mess around with the Q there to give a little bit of a dip in the frequency response above the xover point and see how that goes... I used a buncha madisound buyout caps so it should be easy enough to adjust that value a bit -- also the tweeter is about 1.5dB over the mids in level on average but I kinda liked it like that -- no padding
Unless there is a peak in the midrange's response that isn't in the published data I have a hunch it can all be adjusted in the tweeter's filter
Thanks for the comments!

Dylan,
Where do you live? Maybe there's someone halfway close who could measure them for you?

I'm in Columbus -- going to Ohio State -- anyone near?

Maybe Ohio State has an anechoic room? I would see if you can get your hands on any school profs or students willing to measure.

I know what you mean when you say they shouted a little. I have done a 3 way with Seas CA26rfx woof, MP14RCY mid and 27TDC tweeter. I have found the mid to be shouty as well. Has any one here had experience in taming the shoutiness of the MP14rcy? Would like to learn some tricks to help. All I have done is put an L-pad on the mid to quiten it a little. The mid is enclosed in a 2l chamber if this makes a difference.
I have tested the mid by itself with no tweeter and woofer conected and it still seems a bit shouty? Maybe it is distorting too early in the volume range for my liking?
Any info from builders who have experienced this would be greatly appreciated.
