Default OH DIY; Sombreros, Bass blasts, moon cheese..

It was a great day + 0.5. Many speakers represented some fine examples of well thought-out implementation. Friday night had some good merit, with some setup qualifications, and seeing what worked better in-room. We still had that "room-boom" from years' past. That night I heard Jim's 5th(?) pair of completed line-arrays, and am still blown away with accuracy (though to rosey for my blood). This being my first encounter with the DEQX was pleasant, if just to see it's potential, and accurate price tag.

On to Saturday (after about 4.5hrs of unfulfilling slumber), we started out with a few sets, and noticed the polarity of one channel was flipped. We later recalled these for another demonstration. We barely finished hearing them all before supper due to many projects displayed.

Of note- Paul K's Trilangle II's had great sound. Compared to last year's rendition, they were more forward, but more detailed for layers of music, and cleaner overall. Bass was still tight and clean. ChrisM's stuff had some merit, with some quasi-arrays sounding good, and Cryolites were one of the better pairs there. Shawn's HT1's sounded nice and airy, and clean bass. He's right thugh- "small" setting would be better for these. His RS150/RS28 has made some improvements along the way, and sounds the best they have yet. Darren's center/sub combo was amazing to say the least, intrigued by 6 TB 3", and tweet in a 2.5.5 design. Drake was the sub, nuff sedd. Dr K's just ROCKED! They are definitely in the rock-class to me. Of the smaller designs(of course I'm slightly biased), most seemed to be surprised by my (truly unmodified TB) W3-517S1 dual-reflex FR's. Some were shocked. My Bitties gave good slam, and Auras did okay too. I like Dylan's B3S speakers quite a bit too. Darren's active arrays were only bumped out of the "biggest-speaker" spot by dlsbobby's Omega Pro18 40Hz horn-sub. MAN, THAT WAS FUN!!! On the electronics end, my amp was a simple fix after Aaron determined the cause. Matt's amps were the cake-bakers, I mean -takers, and an experience to say the least.

Prizes were mostly Hi-Vi 5" pairs, Premium Dayton Binding Posts, and a ser#1 TB W8-1363SA subwoofer was my lucky withdrawal. It's not even for sale as yet. I'll report my findings soon.

    La Pinata-
Christian had a B-day, and Bill Horn instigated the embarassment sombrero with a good laugh. Shawn had a MONSTER BURRITO and a few laughs belted. I smell blackmail! A solid good time.

    Moon cheese-
Noid, that parts for you. =-)

    What a day!

I'm always amazed, Wolf, by the speakers you create for so little money. Thanks for the compliments on my TriLangles; you hit the nail on the head regarding their basic sound. Initially they were very forward and took several weeks of tweaking with small changes in midrange and tweeter attenuation (plus break-in) to dial them in as they now are.

Good info Wolf. I recently sold my HI-VI B3S speakers on Ebay and they actually made money. I thought the sound was very nice too. Amazing how much bass those little guys can put out. And the sound was very clean and clear. Overall, I was amazed that they only cost $10 each because they sounded way better than $10. I also built some TBW371S (only available in Canada i belive) and the B3S sounded better IMO than the TB. Those olives were very interesting. Very unique design and my those champagne holders he got off ebay was just an amazing afterthought. What speakers did you use ChadG? I was looking for ShawnA in some of those pictures but I failed to see him. Saw the Wolf in a few though hehe. Well, it sounded like a great event and great fellowship. Regards, Paul.

Which ones in particular did you like? ~45 for the Bitty total each, and I only paid $1 for each W3-517S1 driver!! The drawer/mounting hardware was the expensive part of that project.

Is there a reason why the mids only run a small bandwidth? 1400 to even 5k isn't very big. Just a filler driver? Was there a lot of BP gain? Just curious why you didn't follow the three octave rule.
    Thanks for your thoughts,
    Wolf
