To showoff an entire system the first part of Master and Commander might be good. The creaking of the ship all around will show just how good the system is at quiet and subtle reproduction. Then, the ship battle should be good for impact. Not sure how low the canon shots go though. So, it may not push sub to its lower limits, but maybe selecting a seperate movie for subwoofer show off would be good.

Here are several I've recently seen (I borrowed some of the comments from elsewhere but I couldn't have said it better) and other sources.

    1. Flight of the Phoenix: The crash scene at the beginning of the movie
    - once the propellor comes off (sorry about the spoiler), major LFE happens.

    2. LOTR:Fellowship of the Ring
    - the opening battle scene
    - the cave troll scene cannot be described...MASSIVE 20,30 and 40Hz energy!
    - FEEL every stone tearing apart when the elves cross the bridge and it begins to disintegrate.
    - Balrock's 20Hz footsteps of pure stomp will make you run for cover!
    - With the "Sauron sweep", find out exactly what your sub is made of.

    3. Finding Nemo: Tapping on the aquarium glass scene

    4. On the SVS site here:
    <A HREF="http://www.svsubwoofers.com/faq.htm#musicdemos">http://www.svsubwoofers.com/faq.htm#musicdemos</A>
    - about halfway down the page, under "11) What are some great bass demos?", you'll find a good bunch of movies and music sources for LFE testing.

    5. Finally there is the AVS Forum "HT Demo tree" thread here:
    <A HREF="http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showt...6&page=6&pp=30">http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showt...6&page=6&pp=30</A>
that may have everything you want to assist you in "The Ultimate LFE Sub Test".

    Cheers, Have fun, Bruce

Default 2nd for LOTR and Nemo

I've been exploring this ever since I've had my 15" Quatro/240W.

Any of the Lord of the Rings DVDs have excellent content, but particularly the DTS tracks on the extended editions.
    - The large rocks and chunks of building catapulted through the air and hitting the ground in Return of the King - WOW!
    - Whenever Frodo puts the ring on, I get deep rumbles that are barely audiable.
    - The opening sequence of the Fellowship... namely Sauron being defeated
    - Throughout the movies, the background sounds of the quietest scense often have distant thuds that were not there with a lesser audio system.

Finding Nemo - as already mentioned, with Darla tapping on the fish tank. My sister said, "OMG, I'll never tap on a fishtank again!"

Pirates of the Carribean - Numerous great scenes.
    - Battle between the Black Pearl and the Intercepter or basically anything with cannon fire.
    - When Elizabeth falls into the water, and the medalian hits the water, there is a cool heart beat type sonic boom.

IRobit - can't name anything specific, but impressive throughout.

Jurassic Park I and III (don't have II). Again, DTS seemed to make a difference as far as oumph.

Shrek 1 and 2 - music and effects. These surprised me, although there isn't anything jaw dropping or anything that isn't similar to another movie.

    Incredibles - also throughout, but
    - the secret message self destruct in particular was unexpectedly nice.
    - Almost everything after the family approaches the island.

Monsters, Inc. - also throughout, but particularly:
    - Anytime the little girl cries or laughs.
    - When the sock gets nuked

That's most of my current demo material. Almost everything we have that has a DTS track has some sort of cool LFE somewhere. Some of the THX intros are the best demos. The DTS demo on T2 Ultimate Edition is also pretty nice.

I'd recommend some well-recorded music... Eagles, etc., along with a few of the scenes which really show off the surround stuff...
