    Default North Creek D25-06S

Are any of you familiar with the North Creek D25-06S? How would it compare to the Dayton Silkie or the 27TDFC? Seems like $36.00 for a matched pair is a great price if they are as good as they seem.

I do realize that this is a 25mm and not a 28mm. I'm more interested in the quality of construction and characteristics such as sound, distortion, difficulty in taming, etc. I don't yet trust my familiarity with specs sufficiently to be sure of these things.

Tom: Check out the link below to the Rev's PeeCreek. I built the PeeCreek and then upgraded to a UPee witht the Usher tweeter. North Creek D25 is well built and sounds great. The Usher tweeter is a whole different story and sounds even better.
    Good luck. Bill

I heard what I believe was the D25 in a NorthCreek two-way kit at the DIY Norcal event last month. Sounded great.

Lol, that's where I first saw them. I was just interested in second opinions.

Comparing specs, I’d say the D25’s are at least on a par with the Silkie’s, and are better in some respects, such as frequency response. Those I’ve heard do a very respectable job, especially considering the price point. I can’t say how they would compare to the Seas…

-One nice advantage of the D25: The flange diameter is the same as the Usher, Dayton RS, and Scan-Speak 9x00 series tweeters, so you can easily move up should you ever ‘hear’ the need.

Excellent point Curt. Maynard here in FL used the North Creeks in a 3-way tower that he took to the Iowa DIY last year and won the $250 budget class. I have a pair of them here for the Echo kits I am building and they are on par if not better than the silkies in my opinion. I wil have full report on them in a couple of weeks hopefully.

One big thing I really like is that you get a matched pair and George at North Creek is indeed a blessing to work with in my experiences.

Yep, several actually. Just received the parts Tuesday for a small sub for a music-only system, but have several other projects in design. I still have to take some time to post the info on the RS150 2-way. Maybe I'll do that today.

The upgradeability of the baffle is certainly something worth considering. Once the silkies I used were broken in, I was pleased with their sound for the price I paid, but knew I would want much better for speakers I would keep for myself. My choice would be the better tweeters, but sometimes budget for me or others dictates starting with a cheaper driver. I've been fortunate in that both of the projects I've completed and the one I'm working on now have been and are going to be for other people. I get to learn on them, and so far none of them have been as picky as I am about the sound.

    Thanks for the tip, Curt.
